Job summary

Venatu Recruitment Group is seeking a Fire Service Engineer to service, maintain, and support fire protection systems across the South East and London. You will work on commissioning, documentation, and client handover, ensuring compliance with BS standards and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all service visits follow the service schedule and report issues to the manager.
  • Oversee from start of each job through commissioning and handover, including design queries and documentation.
  • Test and service fire protection systems per BS 5839 and BS 5306 with accurate record-keeping.
  • Assist with budgets, resource planning, and procurement.
  • Supervise subcontracted labour and ensure safe, compliant completion of small works.
  • Prepare timely reports, signed worksheets, photos and documentation.
  • Support invoicing and payments for service works and assist with sales/estimations.
  • Collaborate with sales, design and technical teams for project handovers.
  • Represent the organization professionally to clients and industry professionals.
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of quality and technical expertise.
  • Monitor market and competitors to drive improvements.

Location: South East / London
Salary: Up to £48,000 DOE

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Fire Service Engineer is responsible for the efficient servicing, maintenance, and support of fire protection systems, ensuring that all works are conducted safely, to a high standard, and in line with statutory and industry regulations.

The role involves technical involvement throughout the lifecycle of each service visit or small works project, including commissioning, documentation, and client handover. The role will involve working across sites throughout the South East and London.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure all service visits are carried out according to the service schedule and report issues promptly to the relevant manager.
  • Take active involvement from the start of each job through to commissioning and client handover, including support with design queries, calculations, and documentation.
  • Conduct thorough servicing and testing of fire protection systems in line with relevant standards, including BS 5839 and BS 5306, maintaining accurate records and witness documentation.
  • Participate in the development of project budgets prior to the start of any work, including resource and procurement planning.
  • Supervise and control subcontracted labour during service or small works projects.
  • Undertake small works in a compliant, safe, and organised manner, adhering to health and safety requirements and relevant industry standards.
  • Complete comprehensive and timely reporting, including submission of signed worksheets, photographs, and other required documentation.
  • Maintain cost control and budget records for service works under your responsibility.
  • Support the preparation of applications for payment or invoicing of service works.
  • Assist with sales or estimation activities as required.
  • Work closely with sales, design, and technical teams to ensure continuity of work and effective project handover.
  • Represent the organisation professionally, fostering strong relationships with clients and industry professionals.
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards of quality, reliability, and technical expertise within the fire protection sector.
  • Cooperate with site management and contribute positively as part of the wider team.
  • Monitor developments in the market and competitor activity to support continuous improvement.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • Proven experience in electrical engineering, fire protection service engineering, or a related field.
  • Practical experience with fire detection and fire suppression systems.
  • Previous experience working within data centre environments is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of fire safety systems, standards, and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and service documentation.
  • Skilled in identifying and resolving site-based issues efficiently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel for reporting and record-keeping.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Experience supervising subcontractors or junior staff is desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • FIA, IFEDA, or equivalent fire safety-related training or certification.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation, with experience preparing risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites across London and the South East.
