Field Geologist – Underground Mining & Grade Control

Job summary

Nussir is seeking a skilled geologist for an onsite, residential role in the Hammerfest region. You will contribute to safety-focused mining and geology teams, collect field data, and log drilling cores while supporting grade control and exploration efforts.

You will interpret geological models, oversee diamond drilling activities, manage databases, and collaborate with engineers and surveyors to optimize ore recovery and reconciliation processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology from a recognized university.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in underground non-ferrous metals production.
• Experience in geological interpretation and 3D modelling using Leapfrog, Deswik and Supervisor.
• Experience with overseeing diamond drilling and diamond drilling contractors.
• Database management and QA/QC of geological data.
• Knowledge of underground grade control drilling, sampling techniques, reconciliation and underground mapping.
• Good team working skills.
• Understanding of mine planning and scheduling, including face sampling and grade modelling.
• Fluent in English; Norwegian or Swedish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of a safety-focused culture in mining and geology teams.
• Collect geological field data including face mapping and chip sampling.
• Geological and geotechnical logging of drilling cores.
• Inspect and guide drilling operations related to grade control and mine exploration.
• Ensure high quality in geological sampling and data processing.
• Co-operate with operational team to optimize dilution and ore recoveries.
• Participate in reconciliation between geological models and production.
• Use block and geological models and drill core databases.
• Collect and ship geological samples to assay lab.
• Update grade-control geology models as needed.
• Support Senior geologist with geology reports.
• Solve non-standard problems and improve geological processes.
