Job summary

Nexans, a global leader in subsea and land cable systems, invites you to join the Telecom and Operations team in Oslo as a Fiber Technician. You will perform assembly, termination, testing and repair of fibre optic cables and systems at factory locations, onshore and offshore project sites.

The role requires experience with fibre optic cables, splicing and measurements, fluency in Norwegian and English, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with fibre optic cables and systems.
  • Practical experience with fibre splicing, termination, assembly, testing or measurements is an advantage.
  • Technical education or relevant practical experience within fibre optics, telecom, electrical, mechanical or a related field.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical procedures, standards and documentation.
  • Basic IT skills and familiarity with standard office applications.
  • Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
  • Structured, detail-oriented and solution-focused approach to work.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to factory, customer and project locations, including onshore and offshore assignments.
  • Fluent in Norwegian and English, both oral and written.

Responsibilities

  • Performing mechanical assembly, termination and integration work in accordance with Nexans procedures and guidelines.
  • Performing fibre splicing, measurements and testing of fibre optic cables and systems.
  • Carrying out FAT measurements during project execution, including participation with clients when required.
  • Preparing, planning, packing and setting up equipment before assembly and testing activities.
  • Performing repairs at factory locations and during installation activities in accordance with relevant procedures.
  • Completing work documentation, reporting discrepancies through quality systems.
  • Conducting safety and risk evaluations, including SJA, when work falls outside standard procedures.
  • Supporting internal and external training workshops within your area of expertise.
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of procedures and work methodologies with the technical department.
  • Working closely with engineering, project teams, manufacturing plants and clients to ensure safe, reliable and high-quality execution.
  • Contributing to R&D activities and technical development within fibre optics.

WELCOMING YOU TO THE TEAM

You will join the Telecom and Operations team within Nexans’ Subsea Telecom & Special Cables (STSC) business, supporting projects involving subsea fibre optic cables and related systems.

The team works across functions and locations, collaborating closely with Fibre Optics Engineering, project teams, manufacturing plants, clients and other Nexans business units. Although the position is based at our Oslo HQ, the role includes practical project work at Nexans facilities as well as onshore and offshore project locations.

You will report to the Technical Manager Telecom and Operations and become part of an international environment where technical expertise, teamwork and safe execution are essential to delivering high-quality solutions to our customers.

HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

As a Fiber Technician, you will perform practical technical work related to the assembly, termination, testing and repair of fibre optic cables and systems. You will contribute to both production and project execution, working at factory locations as well as onshore and offshore when required.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Performing mechanical assembly, termination and integration work in accordance with Nexans procedures and guidelines.

Performing fibre splicing, measurements and testing of fibre optic cables and systems.

Carrying out FAT measurements during project execution, including participation with clients when required.

Preparing, planning, packing and setting up equipment before assembly and testing activities.

Performing repairs at factory locations and during installation activities in accordance with relevant procedures.

Completing work documentation, recording progress and reporting discrepancies through company quality systems.

Conducting safety and risk evaluations, including SJA, when work falls outside standard procedures.

Supporting internal and external training workshops within your area of expertise.

Contributing to the development and improvement of procedures and work methodologies together with the technical department.

Working closely with engineering, project teams, manufacturing plants and clients to ensure safe, reliable and high-quality execution.

Contributing to R&D activities and technical development within fibre optics.

You will play an important role in ensuring that work is completed safely, correctly, on time and with a strong focus on customer and project requirements.
