Job summary

Nexans is seeking an Asset Manager – Topside Equipment in Oslo to act as the technical authority for all topside cable laying equipment on Nexans’ CLVs and barges. You will oversee reliability, availability, and integrity to meet operations and regulatory standards.

The role involves coordinating upgrades, managing MoC procedures, and driving continuous improvement across the fleet, reporting to the Technical Vessel Manager, PWR‑T BG.

Qualifications

• University degree in engineering or similar technical discipline.
• Extensive installation and vessel operations experience.
• Strong technical experience with topside and cable laying equipment (e.g. carousels, linear cable engines, tensioners, cranes, winches).
• Experience coordinating vendors and contractors, including OEMs and service providers.
• Experience from shipyards, workshops, conversions, and/or new builds.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical focal point for all topside cable laying equipment during planning, mobilization, offshore operations, and demobilization.
• Monitor equipment performance and condition-based data to ensure safe and efficient cable laying operations.
• Provide remote and on-site technical support to vessel managers/crews and offshore managers.
• Lead improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with MoC procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and offshore supervisors to align equipment readiness with project schedules.

The Vessel Management Department within the PWR‑T Business Group is responsible for Nexans’ marine assets, including:

• Three Cable Laying Vessels (CLVs): Nexans Skagerrak, Nexans Aurora, Nexans Electra
• Two Cable Laying Barges (CLBs): UR 141, Marmac 306 (US)
• Additional chartered vessels and marine assets used worldwide

These assets are equipped with highly technical topside cable laying equipment that must operate safely, reliably, and efficiently to support our projects.

As our project portfolio and fleet capabilities continue to grow, we are looking for an Asset Manager – Topside Equipment to join our team in Oslo, Norway. In this role, you will report to the Technical Vessel Manager, PWR‑T BG.

HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

As Asset Manager – Topside Equipment, you will be the technical authority for all cable laying topside equipment installed on Nexans’ CLVs and barges. You will be responsible for the reliability, availability, and integrity of these assets, ensuring they meet operational needs, regulatory requirements, and company standards.

You will play a key role in operational support, asset integrity management, upgrades and modifications, and continuous improvement of topside equipment across the fleet.

Your main responsibilities include:

Equipment Operations & Performance

• Serve as the primary technical focal point for all topside cable laying equipment, including auxiliary topside equipment (e.g. cranes, winches), during planning, mobilization, offshore operations, and demobilization.
• Monitor equipment performance and condition-based data to ensure safe and efficient cable laying operations.
• Provide remote and on-site technical support to vessel managers/crews and offshore managers.
• Ensure vessel managers are involved in and approve operational limitations in line with governing bridging documents.
• Lead root-cause investigations into equipment failures, performance deviations, or operational incidents and drive corrective actions.

Upgrades, Modifications & Asset Integrity

• Manage the full process for requests for modification (RfM) related to topside equipment.
• Develop technical scopes, specifications, and business justifications for upgrades or new equipment investments.
• Coordinate with engineering teams, OEMs, and project stakeholders to evaluate feasibility, cost, and operational impact of proposed upgrades, modifications, or investments.
• Ensure that all modifications follow company Management of Change (MoC) procedures and are fully documented.
• Follow up vessel managers on execution of topside equipment upgrades, modifications, and major maintenance activities.
• Drive asset integrity management and long-term lifecycle planning for topside equipment.

Project & Stakeholder Coordination

• Collaborate with project managers, project engineers, and offshore supervisors to align equipment readiness with project schedules and operational requirements.
• Support tendering and project engineering by providing technical input on equipment capabilities, constraints, and configuration.
• Act as the liaison between vessel operations, engineering, procurement, and external vendors.
• Support coordination with the vessel management company for operations, maintenance, and certification aspects related to topside equipment.

Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

• Ensure topside equipment operations comply with all relevant regulations and standards, including asset/unit certification, class rules, marine regulations, company QHSE requirements, and vessel SMS.
• Promote and contribute to a strong safety culture and QHSE mindset across vessel and project teams.
• Capture and implement lessons learned from operations, incidents, and improvement initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvement in equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and crew usability (procedures, tools, training).
