Detailed Design Discipline Manager

Ocean Installer is looking for an experienced Discipline Manager to develop our detailed design capability.

This is a new role, created to support the increasing need for detailed design competence across FEED studies, tenders, and EPCI projects. The role will combine technical leadership and hands-on engineering with responsibility for building a small, focused discipline tailored to the needs of our projects.

Detailed Design is an important link between early-phase engineering and execution, supporting constructability, procurement, and efficient transition from FEED into project delivery.

Why this role?

This is an opportunity to shape a new engineering capability within Ocean Installer rather than simply step into an existing position. You will have influence across the project lifecycle, from FEED through tendering, detailed design, procurement, and offshore execution.

The ambition is a small, capable discipline that combines design expertise with Ocean Installer's practical installation and execution experience, while using specialist external resources where appropriate.

What we can offer you

As Detailed Design Discipline Manager, you will be the Subject Matter Expert for Detailed Design within Ocean Installer and the focal point for detailed design activities across the company.

You will be responsible for:

  • Establishing and developing Ocean Installer's Detailed Design discipline and ways of working.
  • Providing technical leadership and hands-on engineering support to FEED studies, tenders, and EPCI projects.
  • Defining fit-for-purpose detailed design scopes and deliverables based on requirements.
  • Acting as the detailed design focal point within EPCI project teams and ensuring effective interfaces with other engineering disciplines.
  • Supporting the transition from FEED into detailed design, procurement, and execution.
  • Supporting tender teams in defining and assessing detailed design scope, execution strategy, and requirements.
  • Developing scopes of work for external engineering providers and following up design houses and specialist subcontractors.
  • Reviewing and quality‑assuring third‑party engineering deliverables and ensuring technical, contractual, and commercial alignment.
  • Working closely with clients, suppliers, and internal engineering disciplines.
  • Maintaining relevant technical competence and awareness of developments within detailed design.
Who we`re looking for

We are looking for someone with broad subsea detailed design experience combined with a strong understanding of offshore construction and project execution. This experience may come from an EPCI contractor, design house, engineering consultancy, or a similar environment.

  • Field layout and pipeline routing
  • Offshore design codes
  • On-bottom stability and freespan analysis
  • Crossing and spool design
  • Tie-in analysis
  • Flexible pipe and riser design
  • Dynamic riser analysis
  • Structural and pipeline interfaces
  • Interfaces towards geotechnical, survey, flow assurance, materials, pre-commissioning, SPS and diverless connection system.

Just as importantly, you should understand how design decisions translate into fabrication, construction and offshore installation. We are looking for someone who can combine sound engineering principles with practical execution experience and develop solutions suited to an installation contractor and EPCI environment.

Qualifications and experience:

This is not a role where you will take over an established discipline. You will help build it.

The discipline is intended to remain lean, supplemented by internal specialists and external design resources when required.

You should therefore be comfortable working across organizational boundaries, challenging established ways of working and demonstrating the value that Detailed Design can bring to projects. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential, together with the credibility to work effectively with project teams, clients, discipline leads and external engineering providers.

We are looking for someone who is pragmatic, adaptable, and commercially aware, and who takes ownership rather than waiting for a fully defined framework. If you recognize yourself in several og the qualifications below, we would love to hear from you:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Structural, Marine, Subsea Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience, with significant experience within subsea detailed design and EPCI project execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, preferably as a Lead Engineer, Discipline Lead, Discipline Manager, or Subject Matter Expert.
  • Experience from an EPCI contractor, engineering/design house, subsea contractor, or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of the interfaces between engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and offshore installation.
