Job summary

Ably Medical is seeking a hands-on Chief Technology Officer to lead a small R&D tech team in Oslo. You will deliver on product priorities, architect the LYNG system end-to-end from hardware to cloud, and champion AI agent integration across workflows.

You will partner with management to shape the technical roadmap, scale R&D, and ensure regulatory compliance (ISO 13485, MDR). On-site with some flexibility, you’ll drive innovation and performance at scale.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years in medical device or regulated product development with senior technical leadership.
• ISO 13485 development projects for physical products with software and V&V.
• CE marking experience under EU MDR 2017/745 with documentation.
• Strong system architecture across hardware, embedded software, cloud and analytics.
• Experience taking hardware products to volume production with DFM and cost reduction.
• Experience in design control, risk management, traceability, configuration and change control, cybersecurity.
• Proven technical project management including budgets, resources and outsourced partners.
• R&D leadership to scale a startup’s team and processes.
• Experience building AI agents integrated in development workflows.
• A track record driving AI agent adoption beyond own team.

Responsibilities

• Run R&D projects hands-on and deliver on committed dates with scope, plan and budget.
• Own system architecture and integration across hardware, embedded software, cloud and analytics.
• Own technology strategy and roadmap, including AI usage in development and products.
• Ensure design control, risk management, traceability and V&V; support MDR evidence with QARA.
• Lead design transfer to production with Operations.
• Design for volume production and cost; optimize designs with suppliers.
• Build and develop the R&D team and set investment priorities.
• Build, deploy and manage AI agents within R&D workflows and ISO 13485 context.
• Lead adoption of AI agents across Ably and enable other teams to integrate them.
