The Opportunity
We're partnering with a fast‑growing Managing General Agent (MGA) to appoint a Property & Casualty Underwriting Lead to head up underwriting strategy and delivery across the Nordic region. This is a senior, high‑visibility role for an experienced P&C underwriter ready to take ownership of a portfolio, build out a team, and shape the direction of the business across Scandinavia.
You will sit at the intersection of technical underwriting excellence and commercial leadership – owning delegated authority and risk appetite, driving profitable growth, and acting as the face of the business with brokers, capacity providers, and clients across Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland.
What You'll Be Doing
- Owning the P&C underwriting strategy and P&L for the Scandinavian book, operating within delegated underwriting authority
- Setting and maintaining risk appetite, pricing discipline, and underwriting guidelines in line with capacity provider agreements
- Leading, mentoring, and growing a team of underwriters across multiple Nordic locations
- Building and maintaining senior relationships with brokers, capacity/carrier partners, and key corporate clients
- Identifying new business opportunities and product lines, and driving profitable portfolio growth
- Managing and reporting performance to capacity providers, ensuring binder terms and authority limits are upheld
- Partnering closely with actuarial, claims, and compliance teams to manage exposure, volatility, and regulatory requirements
- Representing the business at market events and industry forums across the region
- Reporting on portfolio performance, market trends, and competitor positioning to senior leadership and capacity partners
What We're Looking For
- Proven track record in Property & Casualty underwriting, with strong technical expertise across commercial lines
- Prior experience in a leadership or lead underwriter capacity, ideally with P&L ownership; MGA or delegated authority experience strongly preferred
- Deep knowledge of the Nordic/Scandinavian insurance market – regulatory landscape, broker relationships, and competitive dynamics
- Understanding of capacity/carrier relationship management and binder/delegated authority arrangements
- Fluency in English; fluency or strong working proficiency in a Scandinavian language (Swedish, Norwegian, or Danish) is highly advantageous
- Strong commercial acumen balanced with rigorous technical underwriting judgment
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, comfortable operating at board, capacity partner, and broker level
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACII, CPCU, or equivalent) preferred
What's On Offer
- Six‑figure base salary, commensurate with experience
- Performance‑related bonus
- Comprehensive benefits package (pension, healthcare, relocation support where applicable)
- Hybrid / flexible working across Nordic hub locations
- A genuine platform to build and lead a growing regional function within an ambitious, entrepreneurial MGA
