Job summary

Netcraft is seeking a Backend Engineering Team Lead to establish and guide a new backend group responsible for several Netcraft products, including Integration Layer, NSI, Web and SSL Server Survey, and Spam analysis. You’ll build a team, contribute code, and set delivery roadmap.

You’ll work with Product and Design to shape strategy, maintain high engineering standards, balance hands‑on coding (about 30–50%), and apply AI‑first techniques to boost productivity while modernising legacy systems.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership with a constructive problem‑solving approach.
• Excellent communication, ability to distil complex tech for stakeholders.
• A broad engineering background across Go, OpenSearch and MongoDB, with AWS experience.
• Track record of turning ideas into production and delivering value in existing products.
• Experience partnering with Product Managers to shape strategy and priorities.
• Experience with AWS and ML tools/frameworks.
• Interest in reverse‑engineering legacy codebases to improve systems.
• Experience interviewing and hiring engineers and building high‑performing teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a new backend team responsible for Integration Layer, NSI, Web and SSL Server Survey, and Spam products.
• Provide hands‑on technical contribution (~30–50% time) while setting delivery roadmaps and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Product and Design to evaluate products and develop long‑term strategies.
• Drive problem solving, prioritisation, and sequencing of work to meet demanding timelines.
