The University of Stavanger invites applicants for a position as Associate Professor in Environmental Biotechnology at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Chemistry, Bioscience and Environmental Engineering.
We are seeking a candidate who is motivated to contribute to the development of future solutions for water quality and sustainable resource management. The position is affiliated with an active and interdisciplinary research environment with ambitions to strengthen research and education in biological processes in water and wastewater systems.
The successful candidate will contribute to strengthening and further developing the department’s expertise in environmental biotechnology and related disciplines. The position includes research, teaching, and supervision at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, dissemination of research results, development of collaboration with industry and public sector partners, and the advancement of innovative and digital teaching methods. Innovation and value creation based on research and scholarly development activities are also integral parts of the position.
This position is particularly well suited for candidates who wish to develop and expand an independent research and teaching portfolio within an active, collaborative, and internationally oriented academic environment.
We are looking for an Associate Professor with a PhD in environmental biotechnology, environmental engineering or a closely related field; or competence at a comparable level documented by scientific work of comparable scope and quality.
Specialisation within one or several of the following topics will be preferred:
You must be able to document active, ongoing research at a high academic level and have the potential for future high-level research in the subject area. We emphasize the quality, relevance and significance of the research work rather than the where the work is published, in accordance with the principles of The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).
Experience from industrial projects (such as bioremediation and aquaculture) and experiences with fieldwork are considered an advantage.
It is expected that you have a reflective and conscious approach to your teaching and supervision. You must have basic competence for teaching and supervision in higher education, normally documented by 200 hours of courses in university-/college teaching combined with teaching practice. If you do not meet this requirement you must complete university pedagogy courses within two years from accession. Courses are offered by the university.
Norwegian is the main language at UiS. The working and teaching languages are Norwegian and English. As the position involves significant responsibility for ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and other legal frameworks that are primarily available in Norwegian, you must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language at a minimum B2 level upon appointment.
