Job summary

Maersk is seeking an experienced Workplace Health Manager to shape and strengthen our workplace health, absenteeism, reintegration, and occupational health compliance agenda across Maersk entities in the Netherlands. You will partner with People Partners, leaders, HSE, and external providers to ensure compliance with Dutch legislation, improve case outcomes, and support sustainable employability.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years of HR, occupational health, or related experience in absenteeism management.
• Experience managing complex absenteeism and reintegration in the Netherlands.
• Strong knowledge of Dutch sickness absence, reintegration, Arbo, WIA and Wet verbetering poortwachter.
• Ability to translate legal and regulatory requirements into pragmatic business processes.
• Strong analytical, stakeholder management and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Shape and continuously improve how absenteeism and reintegration are managed across Maersk entities in the Netherlands.
• Guide leaders, People Partners, Case Managers, and other stakeholders on complex absenteeism, reintegration, and Wet verbetering poortwachter topics.
• Keep oversight of long-term sickness cases, ensuring timely follow-up, clear escalation, and effective intervention strategies.
• Work closely with occupational health providers, company doctors, case managers, and external vendors to improve the quality and consistency of case management.
• Use absenteeism insights and trends to identify risks and recommend targeted actions that support prevention and sustainable employability.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives that help reduce compliance risks, improve employee outcomes, and strengthen organizational effectiveness.
• Establish clear processes and indicators to track progress and demonstrate impact over time.

We are looking for an experienced Workplace Health Manager to help shape and strengthen our workplace health, absenteeism (verzuim), reintegration, and occupational health compliance agenda across Maersk entities in the Netherlands.

In this role, you will be a trusted subject matter expert for People Partners, leaders, HSE, occupational health providers, Works Councils, Legal, and external partners. You will help ensure compliance with Dutch legislation, improve case outcomes, reduce absenteeism risks, and support sustainable employability in a practical and business-focused way.

This is a hands-on role with room to make a visible difference. You will work independently in a complex matrix organization, bringing structure, clarity, and continuous improvement to an area that directly impacts employees, leaders, and the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Shape and continuously improve how absenteeism and reintegration are managed across Maersk entities in the Netherlands.
• Guide and challenge leaders, People Partners, Case Managers, and other stakeholders on complex absenteeism, reintegration, and Wet verbetering poortwachter topics.
• Keep oversight of long-term sickness cases, ensuring timely follow-up, clear escalation, and effective intervention strategies.

Compliance & Occupational Health Governance

• Lead the workplace health compliance agenda for the Netherlands and translate legal and regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance.
• Ensure RI&E and PME/PMO processes remain up to date, compliant, and connected to realistic improvement plans.
• Follow through on RI&E and PME/PMO action plans in partnership with leadership, HSE, and Works Councils.
• Act as the workplace health expert during audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.

Stakeholder Management & Capability Building

• Build trusted relationships with leadership teams, People Partners, Works Councils, HSE, Legal, and occupational health providers.
• Create practical guidance, training, and awareness initiatives that help managers act earlier and more confidently.
• Support a culture of prevention and accountability by bringing clear advice, data-driven recommendations, and constructive challenge.
• Provide senior leaders with clear reporting and insights on absenteeism, reintegration, compliance, RI&E, PME/PMO, and workplace health performance.
• Turn data and case learnings into practical recommendations and improvement actions.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives that help reduce compliance risks, improve employee outcomes, and strengthen organizational effectiveness.
• Establish clear processes and indicators to track progress and demonstrate impact over time.

Skills & Experience:

• 7-10 years' relevant experience in HR, occupational health, absenteeism management, case management, or a related discipline.
• Strong experience managing complex absenteeism and reintegration processes in the Netherlands.
• Solid knowledge of Dutch sickness absence, reintegration, labour, Arbo, WIA, and social security legislation, including Wet verbetering poortwachter.
• Ability to translate legal and regulatory requirements into pragmatic business processes and guidance.
• Strong analytical, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, with the confidence to advise, challenge, and support senior stakeholders.

Preferred

• Experience working within a multinational and matrix organization.
• Knowledge of ERD (Eigenrisicodragerschap), WGA processes, UWV procedures, and disability insurance frameworks.
• Experience managing occupational health vendors and external service providers.
• Certification or professional training in case management, occupational health, HR, or related disciplines.
