Job summary

The International School of The Hague is seeking a Vice Principal of Student Wellbeing and Culture to join the Senior Leadership Team. You will bridge strategy and operations to lead the student support vision across the Secondary School, fostering a safe, inclusive environment where every student is known, valued and empowered to flourish.

The role requires strong relationships, resilience and a commitment to diversity, with fluency in English and Dutch and a proven record in safeguarding,

Qualifications

• Proven people-centred leadership guiding wellbeing and inclusion.
• Experience building safeguarding and restorative practices.
• Fluency in English and Dutch, both written and spoken.
• Minimum 5–7 years teaching plus 3–5 years in leadership overseeing student support, wellbeing, safeguarding or behaviour management.

The role

As Vice Principal Student Wellbeing and Culture, you will join the Senior Leadership Team and work closely with the Principal and fellow Vice Principals. The position bridges high-level strategy with operational excellence to lead the student support vision across the Secondary School, fostering a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where every student is known, valued and empowered to flourish.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a visible role model for the values and behaviours of the ISH Community Profile.
• Lead, implement and evaluate the school’s student support vision to foster belonging and community.
• Line manage and empower pastoral leaders, including Deputy Heads of School and the Student Wellbeing Coordinator.
• Chair holistic student support leadership meetings to ensure consistent, high-quality care across year groups.
• Provide strategic oversight of safeguarding frameworks and promote a proactive culture of student welfare.
• Champion student voice in decision-making and school improvement.
• Drive restorative practices, positive behaviour interventions and inclusive education strategies.
• Act as an approachable presence for students, staff and families to build strong home-school connections.

Requirements

• A people-centred, empathetic leader who builds strong relationships and serves as a role model for the school ethos.
• Passion for student wellbeing, belonging, inclusion and social-emotional growth, with a commitment to diversity and equity.
• Resilient, creative and solutions-focused strategist able to bridge planning with operational delivery.
• Proven change-agent skilled in establishing structures, delegating effectively and modernising student support systems.
• Professional-level written and verbal fluency in English and Dutch.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counselling or a related field.
• Recognised teaching qualification meeting Dutch Education Authority standards for secondary education.
• Minimum of five to seven years of secondary teaching experience and three to five years in middle or senior leadership overseeing student support, wellbeing, safeguarding or behaviour management.
• Deep operational expertise in child protection, inclusive education, attendance strategies and restorative practices.
