Job summary

Blauwtand IT in Rotterdam is seeking a Test Lead to grow and mentor a team of about 10 Test Engineers. You’ll shape testing strategy, guide decision making, and collaborate with software, systems, hardware and mechanical engineers to ensure high-quality robotic software integrations.

You will not daily test code but will apply extensive testing experience to steer investigations, prioritise risks, and advance the testing approach across the organization.

Qualifications

• A completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field, such as Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of approximately 10 Test Engineers.
• Work with the team to determine which tests should be prioritized and where the key risks lie.
• Assess the existing testing approach and implement improvements to processes and ways of working.
• Support engineers with complex testing challenges and help evaluate possible solutions.
• Work with developers to ensure that requirements are made concrete and testable.
• Translate test results into clear recommendations regarding product quality and planned releases.
• Facilitate alignment between the test team and colleagues from other technical disciplines.

Would you like to further develop a team of Test Engineers while contributing to the quality of advanced robotic systems? Do you have a strong background in software testing and enjoy coaching and developing engineers? Then this position could be a great fit for you!

Its product portfolio includes a range of advanced (autonomous) robots that make use of various technologies and sensors.

Your team consists of approximately 10 Test Engineers with different levels of experience. They verify software functionality and validate the integration of software within complete robotic systems. You will work closely with software developers, systems engineers, hardware engineers and mechanical engineers to ensure quality throughout the entire development process.

As a Test Lead, you combine coaching leadership with solid knowledge of software testing. You help engineers develop their skills, set priorities and provide direction for further professionalizing the testing approach. You do not need to perform testing yourself on a daily basis, but you are able to use your testing experience to contribute substantively, understand complex challenges and support the team in making technical decisions.

Your responsibillities

Your profile

• A completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field, such as Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Extensive practical experience in software testing, preferably within an environment where technical products are developed.
• Experience as a manager or team lead, with responsibility for guiding and developing employees.
• Sufficient technical knowledge to assess testing decisions, discuss results and provide engineers with substantive support.
• A leadership style based on listening, setting clear expectations and giving people responsibility.
• The ability to bring together different interests and reach agreements with various teams.
• An interest in the interaction between software, hardware and mechanics.
• Strong communication skills in English.
• Knowledge of embedded software, robotics or mechatronics is a plus. Candidates with a background in other software testing environments are also welcome to apply.
• Availability to work on-site in the Rotterdam region for the majority of the week.
