Job summary

Amsterdam UMC invites applications for an Assistant Professor on the CIMM tenure track. You will establish an independent, sustainable research programme in infectious diseases, immunology or microbiology with emphasis on impact, potentially combining fundamental and translational work.

Teaching and leadership are integral, with 80% research, 10% teaching, 10% leadership. The role emphasizes collaboration, high-quality publications, and building an international research network.

Qualifications

• PhD in infectious diseases, immunology, microbiology or closely related field, with postdoctoral research experience.
• Strong research record with evidence of independence and potential for external funding.
• Experience supervising PhD candidates and postdocs; teaching experience; Basic Teaching Qualification welcome.
• Excellent written and spoken English; ability to lead collaborative, inclusive teams.

Responsibilities

• Define and deliver an ambitious research strategy across the full research cycle.
• Build national and international collaborations and raise scientific visibility.
• Obtain external funding as PI or co-PI and publish impactful research.
• Recruit, supervise and mentor PhD candidates, postdocs, staff and students.
• Contribute to teaching, academic leadership, Open Science, knowledge sharing and societal engagement.
