Job summary

Telespazio Belgium is seeking a Telecommunication System Engineer to support ESA activities at ESTEC in the Netherlands. The role focuses on satellite telecom system analysis, simulation, and R&D activities related to SATCOM architectures and protocols.

A security clearance is required for eligibility. The successful candidate will collaborate on ESA-wide satellite projects, possess strong MATLAB/Python/C++ skills, and have 2+ years in SATCOM.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Telecommunication or Electrical engineering (preferable).
• Strong background in satellite communication systems and technologies (maritime/aeronautical).
• Experience in satellite system and network simulations.
• Knowledge of the 3GPP 5G protocol.
• At least 2 years of relevant SATCOM work experience.
• Programming skills in MATLAB, Python, and C++.

Responsibilities

• Support ESA in satellite telecommunication system analysis and simulation.
• Assist in invitation to tenders related to ESA R&D.
• Support management of industrial R&D in system design, analysis and simulations.
• Perform internal technical analyses on future SATCOM systems.
• Help prepare R&D technology roadmaps for satellite network protocols and architectures.
• Contribute to ESA-wide projects in telecommunication systems and technologies.

What is expected from you:

Support ESA in the activities of satellite telecommunication system analysis and simulation

The activities include:

• Assistance in preparation of invitation to tenders related to ESA R&D.
• Support the management of industrial R&D activities in the areas of system design, analysis and simulations
• Support internal hands‑on technical analysis on subjects related to future SATCOM systems
• Support the preparation of the section R&D technology roadmaps in the area of satellite telecom network protocols, architectures and systems
• Support ESA-wide projects in the area of telecommunication systems and technologies

What you offer :

• Master's degree / PhD (preferable) in Telecommunication or Electrical engineering
• Good background on satellite communication system and technologies, particularly in the areas of maritime and aeronautical services
• Experience in satellite system and network simulations
• Good knowledge of the 3GPP 5G protocol
• Knowledge of the following is considered an asset:
• Aeronautical Satcom systems and/or
• Maritime Satcom systems and/or
• Tactical satcom systems with knowledge on related Standards, i.e. SAPIENT, Asterix, Link-16, EPW
• At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of SATCOM
• Knowledge of MATLAB and other programming languages such as Julia, Python, C++.
