Job summary

Telespazio Belgium is seeking a highly skilled Telecommunication System Engineer to work on ESA projects at ESTEC in the Netherlands as a contractor. The role focuses on satellite telecom system analysis and simulation to support ongoing R&D activities.

You will collaborate on system design, lead simulations, and contribute to technology roadmaps, with a preference for security clearance eligibility and a strong SATCOM background. Relocation to the Netherlands is provided.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in Telecommunication or Electrical engineering.
• Strong background in satellite communication systems and technologies, especially maritime/aeronautical services.
• Experience in satellite system and network simulations.
• Knowledge of the 3GPP 5G protocol.
• Assets: Aeronautical/Maritime Satcom, Tactical satcom (SAPIENT, Asterix, Link-16, EPW).
• At least 2 years of relevant SATCOM experience.
• Knowledge of MATLAB and languages such as Julia, Python, R/C++.

Responsibilities

• Support ESA in satellite telecommunication system analysis and simulation.
• Assist in invitation to tenders related to ESA R&D.
• Support R&D activities in system design, analysis and simulations.
• Support internal technical analyses on future SATCOM systems.
• Contribute to R&D technology roadmaps for satellite telecom networks.

What is expected from you:

Support ESA in the activities of satellite telecommunication system analysis and simulation

The activities include:

• Assistance in preparation of invitation to tenders related to ESA R&D.
• Support the management of industrial R&D activities in the areas of system design, analysis and simulations
• Support internal hands‑on technical analysis on subjects related to future SATCOM systems
• Support the preparation of the section R&D technology roadmaps in the area of satellite telecom network protocols, architectures and systems
• Support ESA-wide projects in the area of telecommunication systems and technologies

What you offer :

• Master's degree / PhD (preferable) in Telecommunication or Electrical engineering
• Good background on satellite communication system and technologies, particularly in the areas of maritime and aeronautical services
• Experience in satellite system and network simulations
• Good knowledge of the 3GPP 5G protocol
• Knowledge of the following is considered an asset:
• Aeronautical Satcom systems and/or
• Maritime Satcom systems and/or
• Tactical satcom systems with knowledge on related Standards, i.e. SAPIENT, Asterix, Link-16, EPW
• At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of SATCOM
• Knowledge of MATLAB and other programming languages such as Julia, Python, C++.
