Unigas International is a well-reputed international shipping company focused on the carriage of liquefied gases on a worldwide basis. Founded in 1969 and supported by long-established family-owned maritime groups, Unigas is a key service provider to the world’s Energy and Chemical Majors, as well as leading Trading Houses across the globe. The Unigas fleet currently consists of 28 vessels and is operated out of offices in Rotterdam, Houston and Hong Kong.

To expand our inhouse Technical Department in Rotterdam, we are seeking to employ a Technical Coordinator (1 FTE).

We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic individual to complement our team in Rotterdam. You will solve complex problems together with colleagues from different departments and support fleet operations by coordinating maintenance, repair and crew matters.

This is an important role for an active, analytical & persistent individual who wants to develop strong connections with our seafarers, superintendents and operators. Your core objective is to ensure that the Unigas fleet incurs the least amount of downtime for both planned and unplanned events.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily fleet matters between Unigas’ commercial operations and Partner’s fleet management requirements. The aim is to minimize commercial interference while maximizing opportunities for maintenance and repairs.
• Guide and assist colleagues at sea and ashore with technical input and best practice information provisioning so that they can make informed decisions.
• Work closely with various inhouse departments as central point for preventive and corrective action coordination on all kinds of technical oriented items, including guiding crew members onboard the vessels.

Beyond these core responsibilities, there are additional areas to grow into:

• Actively monitor, identify, and unlock improvement opportunities, as well as spot underperformance or lost potential.
• Analyse vessel and vessel class performance across the Unigas fleet, focusing on efficient power generation, reducing emissions through conscious fuel consumption and improving cargo plant operations.

Looking ahead, your role can expand with additional areas of expertise including:

• Working closely with both in-house and external stakeholders to develop and implement solutions and tools in accordance with the (co-)created optimization roadmap.
• As technical expert you improve onboard operations by leveraging fleetwide experience. You may provide operational training and share lessons learned with crews.

Experience / Qualifications

• Degree in Marine/Mechanical engineering, Naval architecture or similar. Having sailed in rank as engineer or officer qualifies as well.
• Preferably some experience in (commercial) shipping and/or having worked in fleet/vessel management at a ship management company.
• Understanding of ship operations and equipment utilisation.
• Interest in gas and cargo handling is a bonus.

• Excellent communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus).

Our office on the 19th floor has an incredible view and is located in the heart of Rotterdam next to Metro Beurs. Frequent visits to Unigas vessels as well as the possibility to sail with a vessel are promoted.

We offer primary benefits commensurate to the position, education and experience, including 14 months’ salary, fully paid pension, discretionary bonus and full travel allowance. Secondary benefits include 26 vacation days (basis full-time), a loyalty program and the option to acquire additional days off. To aid development we offer courses and training, and provide the necessary tools such as a company laptop and phone.
