Job description

System Engineer - Automated Defence Production Systems
About this job

Would you like to work on a highly innovative engineering project at the intersection of mechanical engineering, process technology and advanced automation?

For our client, we are looking for a System Engineer to play a key role in the development of a new, highly automated production system for the defence sector.

As System Engineer, you will be the technical connecting point across the project. Scientists and technical specialists will focus on individual processes and technologies, while you ensure that these developments work together as one integrated system.

This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary environment, dealing with complex interfaces and helping turn innovative technology into a functioning industrial system.

The position is full-time, based in Delft, with the possibility to work from home 1-2 days per week.

Main responsibilities

As a System Engineer, you will ensure the technical coherence and integration of the overall production system. Your responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating technical activities across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Maintaining an overview of the system architecture, interfaces and technical dependencies.
  • Ensuring that mechanical, chemical, process and automation developments come together effectively.
  • Coordinating interfaces between different production modules and technical systems.
  • Working closely with scientists, engineers, suppliers and other project stakeholders.

  • Supporting the team in solving technical challenges that arise during development.Translating developments at component and process level into a functioning overall system.
  • Contributing to the development of solutions where requirements and processes are still being defined.
  • Helping guide the system from development towards a high Technology Readiness Level (TRL 7) and eventual operational application.

You will work in an environment where not everything is defined from day one. Part of your role will therefore be to bring structure to complexity, ask the right questions and help different disciplines reach practical solutions together.

Requirements

We are looking for a technically strong and pragmatic engineer who enjoys connecting different disciplines and working on complex engineering systems.

You bring:

  • Experience with production lines, processing systems or industrial installations.
  • Knowledge of process engineering and an understanding of the interaction between chemical and mechanical processes.
  • Affinity with the chemical, process or high-tech manufacturing industry.
  • Experience working with complex technical systems and multiple interfaces. The ability to understand technical details while maintaining a strong system-level overview.
  • A proactive and pragmatic approach to solving problems.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with scientists, engineers and other technical specialists.
  • A flexible mindset and the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and incomplete requirements.
  • The ability to obtain the required security clearance for the project.
