Job summary

The Port of Rotterdam Authority seeks a Systems Engineer to lead the structuring of an operational concept and system landscape for a cross-disciplinary development project.

You will collaborate with the project team, users, suppliers, and IT, mapping stakeholders, defining interfaces, and translating needs into a coherent system design that supports both operational and digital objectives.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer or similar role.
• Experience with development of complex information systems.
• Experience with OT environments (sensors, data gathering, storage and processing).
• Knowledge of systems engineering methodologies and their project application.
• Familiarity with ISO 12207, ISO 15288 and J-STD-016.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority is seeking a Systems Engineer for a system development project involving multiple technical disciplines, diverse information sources, and various stakeholders.

The current task requires structuring an operational concept and system landscape that is not yet fully developed, defining requirements and interfaces, and developing an integrated system design that aligns with both operational and digital needs.

For this assignment, we are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer capable of moving from a still incompletely defined situation to a widely accepted system design. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with the project team, users, suppliers, and the IT department of the Port of Rotterdam.

The Systems Engineer is responsible for mapping, structuring, and further designing a system consisting of:

• Communication and data connections.
• Data storage and data platforms.
• Data fusion and analysis capabilities.
• Interfaces with user and management systems.

The candidate ensures that functional needs, technical constraints, management aspects, and architectural choices are integrally translated into a coherent system design.

Job requirements

The candidate demonstrably possesses:

• HBO or WO working and thinking level.
• At least 7 years of relevant experience as a Systems Engineer or similar position.
• Experience with the development of complex technical (information) systems.
• Experience with systems where sensors, data collection, data storage, and data processing come together in an operational environment (OT).
• Knowledge of systems engineering methodologies and their application in projects.
• Demonstrable knowledge of and experience with ISO 12207, ISO 15288 and J-std 016
• Experience with requirements management, system architecture, and interface management.
• Experience with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience with collaboration between business, operations, and IT organizations.
• Experience with data integration and/or data fusion is a plus.
