Job Description

At Fugro, we unlock insights from geo data to help clients design, build and operate their assets safely, sustainably and efficiently. We are looking for a Supervising Engineering Geologist to join our Engineering Geology and Geohazards team, where you will play a key role in delivering innovative marine consulting projects across the energy, infrastructure and environmental sectors. Working alongside experts in geoscience, geotechnical engineering, GIS and dynamic modelling, you will help transform complex geological, geophysical and geotechnical data into meaningful solutions for our clients around the world.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced geologist with a passion for understanding the ground conditions in the marine setting. You will lead geological desk studies, develop integrated ground models, contribute to geohazard assessments and manage projects from planning through to client delivery. In return, you will be part of a collaborative and supportive team that values technical excellence, continuous learning and professional growth, giving you the opportunity to deepen your expertise, build client relationships and make a real impact on projects that shape a safe and liveable world.

Your role and responsibilities:
  • Independently deliver geological desk studies, including geological evolutionary models, soil province assessments and zonation studies.
  • Integrate geological, geophysical and geotechnical datasets to develop robust ground models.
  • Undertake and plan sedimentological and geohazard core logging to support offshore site investigations.
  • Contribute to geohazard assessments and site appraisals through interpretation and analysis of geological data.
  • Conduct microscopy analysis of sand fractions and prepare petrological descriptions of thin sections.
  • Manage desk studies and integrated ground model projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling and resource coordination.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, maintaining effective communication throughout project delivery.
  • Prepare high quality technical reports, presentations and digital deliverables in line with Fugro standards.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Carry out quality checks on interpretation data packs, reports and project deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality control processes and maintain accurate records.
  • Act as a focal point for specific technical specialisms within engineering geology and geohazards.
  • Support and mentor team members through training, coaching and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including Geoscience, GIS, Geotechnical Engineering and Dynamic Modelling.
  • Ensure compliance with Fugro’s Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (QHSSE) standards and procedures.
  • Support the safe and compliant operation of the Engineering Geology and Geohazards core logging facility.
What you’ll need to thrive in this role:
  • Degree in Geology, Geoscience or a related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Geology, Engineering Geology or a Geohazards related subject is desirable.
  • A good level of experience within a geology, geoscience or engineering geology environment.
  • Previous experience in engineering geology and/or geohazard assessment is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of geological processes within marine environments.
  • Ability to interpret geological, geophysical and geotechnical datasets and develop predictive ground models.
  • Knowledge of marine sediment investigation techniques and their application.
  • Understanding of the influence of geology on engineering design and infrastructure development.
  • Experience using industry software such as ArcGIS, Leapfrog, IHS Kingdom or similar interpretation and modelling tools.
  • Ability to produce accurate, high quality technical reports, presentations and client deliverables.
  • Experience managing technical projects, including budgets, schedules and client communications.
  • Strong quality control and quality assurance awareness, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to present technical findings to both colleagues and clients.
  • Proven ability to build positive working relationships within multidisciplinary teams.
