Job summary

Optics11 is seeking a Subsea Cabling Development Engineer to lead the OptiBarrier cabling infrastructure as part of the fiber-optic link from hydrophone interfaces to the dry-end processing unit.

You will translate requirements into robust designs, develop prototypes, and work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure reliability, manufacturability, and long-term offshore operation. A strong background in fiber optics and subsea engineering is essential.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Marine Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience developing complex fiber-optic, electro-mechanical, marine, or subsea systems.
• Experience with fiber-optic cabling, optical connectors, optical communication systems, or subsea cable infrastructure.
• Experience designing cable routing, strain relief systems, mechanical protection, or offshore cable solutions.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD systems for mechanical designs and drawings.
• Understanding of optical attenuation, power budgets, connector technologies, and optical link performance.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary product development teams.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication; eligible for EU/NATO security clearance.
• Nice to have offshore/naval subsea engineering projects and related qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Own the development of the OptiBarrier fiber-optic cabling infrastructure throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to deployment.
• Design robust subsea fiber-optic cable solutions, including routing, connectors, splices, junction box interfaces, and strain relief systems.
• Translate product requirements into reliable subsystem designs meeting optical, mechanical, environmental, installation, and lifecycle needs.
• Develop prototypes, perform testing, and analyze performance to improve reliability and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve interface challenges and support system integration and verification.
• Support offshore deployments and contribute to cable handling, storage, and deployment design for long-haul subsea applications.
• Perform engineering trade-off studies, identify risks, diagnose root causes, and implement improvements for robustness.
• Coordinate with external suppliers and partners on subsea cabling and connectors.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, specifications, and engineering reports.
• Foster a collaborative engineering culture and continuously improve processes.
