Job summary

Optics11 in Amsterdam seeks a Field Subsea Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team. You will design subsea mechanical structures, support field deployments, and work with fiber optic sensing tech on seabed projects.

The role includes analyzing structures (static/dynamic/fatigue), material selection, drawings, and collaborating with suppliers, with up to 40% travel and cross-functional interaction across projects.

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc in Mechanical/Naval/Civil or Marine Engineering or similar.
• 5+ years of offshore, marine, and subsea design engineering experience.
• Knowledge of DNv/ISO 13628 or equivalent.
• Experience with OrcaFlex.
• Strong technical documentation and CAD drawing skills (SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent CAD).
• Proficiency in FEA tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS, or equivalent).
• Structured and independent way of working, affinity with project management.
• Have flexibility in traveling abroad.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop subsea mechanical structures for seabed sensor nodes, housings, anchoring systems, and seabed deployment interfaces
• Perform structural analysis including static, dynamic, fatigue, and on-bottom stability assessments under operational and environmental loading conditions
• Support field deployments and naval operations for our Barrier and Array products
• Define and validate material selections for subsea environments, including corrosion resistance, pressure tolerance, and long-term durability
• Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation in line with relevant offshore standards
• Support offshore deployment planning and execution, including cable laying, anchor design, and seabed interface considerations
• Collaborate with the fiber optic sensing and electronics teams to ensure structural designs are compatible with acoustic performance requirements
• Contribute to prototype development, lab testing, and field trials of seabed sensing hardware
• Interface with external suppliers, manufacturers, and certification bodies
• Support technical proposals and customer-facing documentation where structural design is a differentiator
• Being willing to travel up to 40% of the time.
