Job summary

FoodChain ID seeks a Subject Matter Expert to guide clients through the EU PPWR and sustainable packaging compliance. You will advise on requirements, develop roadmaps, train clients, and collaborate on software for compliance and sustainability initiatives.

You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team across R&D, procurement, and sustainability, translating complex regulations into practical guidance, monitoring updates, and supporting global brands in Deventer with a hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in sustainable packaging compliance or related fields.
• Deep expertise in PPWR and sustainability metrics.
• Ability to translate regulations into practical guidance.
• Experience managing cross-functional projects.
• English fluency; Dutch/French/German a plus.

SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT – EU PPWR & Sustainable Packaging Compliance

Introduction

Shape the Future of Packaging: Help FoodChain ID’s Clients Navigate the EU’s Landmark PPWR Regulation.

What You'll Do

• Advise customers (brand owners, converters, packaging manufacturers) on how to meet PPWR requirements
• Develop and implement PPWR compliance roadmaps, including gap analyses, recyclability assessments, and reuse system design
• Train clients on PPWR requirements via workshops, webinars, and documentation
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to co-develop the software that facilitates PPWR compliance and other packaging sustainability initiatives (e.g. recyclability scoring, reuse tracking, digital passports)
• Translate regulatory requirements into actionable packaging guidance and practical business solutions
• Monitor and interpret regulatory updates (e.g., delegated acts, national implementations) and translate them into actionable guidance for clients

What You Bring

Must-have

• 3+ years of experience in sustainable packaging compliance, regulatory affairs, or circular economy initiatives (consulting, industry, or policy)
• Deep expertise in PPWR, its implications for different packaging types, and sustainability metrics (recyclability, reuse, compostability)
• Proven ability to turn complex regulations into practical, business-ready advice
• Project management experience in cross-functional teams (e.g., collaborating with R&D, procurement, or sustainability teams)
• Fluency in English (written/spoken); Dutch, French, or German is a strong plus (for EU client work)

Nice to have

• A collaborative mindset with an interest in digital tools and innovation (e.g. data platforms, LCA tools, traceability systems)
• Background in food packaging (materials, formats, or food safety standards like EU 10/2011)
• Software co-development experience (e.g., working with product/tech teams)
• Availability to work from our office in Deventer (Netherlands) at least once a week
