Job description

About the Company

Oceans of energy is a young and innovative company, world leader in offshore solar. We installed the world’s first offshore solar farm in 2019. Our mission is to develop offshore energy solutions that work in harmony with nature, and we are committed to making offshore solar a highly valuable option for clean electricity generation.

Job Overview

We are looking for a Structural Engineer to strengthen our team, working on offshore solar projects in the Netherlands. As a Structural Engineer, you will be part of the design team and run design projects within different disciplines, from concept design to detailed design and design verification through testing. The role focuses on creating confidence in the structural performance of the system for long-term operation at sea. It also involves creating insights and models from data collected on our (pilot) systems and other sources to enable the improvement and commercialization of our product.

Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Design platforms, interconnectors and floating systems at conceptual level.
  • Perform FEM analysis and hand calculations on our structural designs (including fatigue analysis).
  • Develop dynamic modelling tools that can result in digital twin systems on our farm performance during its lifetime. Develop and maintain OOE’s in-house structural software.
  • Contribute to developing engineering best practices and internal design standards.
  • Improve the design and come up with future designs of our floating system (structural components). Make it a goal to improve any structural performance with new and more cost‑effective designs for the future.
  • Verify outcome of numerical modelling with hand‑calculations.
  • Select and use the right data management/engineering tools and software and integrate this into our existing structures.
  • Analyze measurement data from our operational systems, and integrate findings in design improvements using numerical simulation tools and (full‑scale) testing.
  • Prepare model testing campaigns and post‑process the data for Oceans of Energy’s needs.
  • Involve experts and suppliers, select them and set up joint development. Guide external parties in the design of certain sub‑systems / components.
  • Work together with other disciplines (i.e. Project and fabrication team) and provide Offshore Operations Team with knowledge about the system.
  • Give input on desired data you would like to gather from sea to give more confidence to your calculations, e.g. measured wave heights, measured loads etc.
  • Create documents using our numbering system, work from SharePoint drives.
  • For insights and improve your understanding sometimes go offshore or help in construction.
  • Occasionally participate in offshore inspections of our system and equipment testing, as required.
Qualifications
  • Technical university degree.
  • Proven experience (3–5 years) in structural engineering.
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamics, naval architecture, structural and designing.
  • Understanding of relevant FEM packages, structural modelling techniques, Python and other engineering tools.
  • Practice, hands‑on mentality with the ability to get things done using simple means.
  • Able to perform well in a fast‑paced and changing environment.
  • Ability to prepare clear reports and organize documentation.
  • Ability to think in detail while maintaining a system‑level overview.
  • Critical mindset and ability to reflect on own work.
  • Creative and open‑minded towards new solutions.
  • Not sorely dependent on existing mature industry technical standards for sound engineering judgment.
  • Ability to remain flexible within a changing company environment and evolving goals.
  • Professional handling of IP, NDAs and contracts.
Why Work at Oceans of Energy
  • Offshore solar energy is the fastest growing and most scalable renewable energy technology, and Oceans of Energy is leading this development.
  • Work alongside a small, dedicated and highly skilled team driven by sustainability and real impact.
  • Competitive remuneration package, aligned with your experience and responsibilities.
  • A flexible time‑off policy, based on trust and responsibility, allowing you to balance work and personal life.
  • Complimentary lunch at the office.
  • A hands‑on scale‑up environment where you can learn by doing, take ownership, and broaden your scope as the company continues to grow and evolve.
  • We value team connection and organize social moments and company gatherings throughout the year.
