Job summary

The Building Company in Middelburg is seeking an experienced Store Manager to drive profitability and growth through effective team leadership, financial oversight, and adherence to procurement and stock-control policies.

You will plan budgets with senior operations and manage day-to-day operations, customer service, and promotional activities to expand the store’s market share. Prior retail leadership and OHS knowledge are preferred and encouraged.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent; commerce-related degree preferred
• Commerce bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
• Financial or Management diploma preferred
• 5–10 years retail experience; minimum 3 years in junior-mid management
• Inwards and Outwards Logistics/Procurement experience desired
• Occupational Health and Safety Act knowledge advantageous

Responsibilities

• Manage profitability by driving store revenue, controlling costs, and maximizing sales and returns.
• Plan and budget with Operations Executive and Regional Ops Manager to translate objectives into an Operating Plan.
• Oversee procurement, stock control and merchandising to align with procurement policies and maintain optimal stock levels.
• Ensure stock variances are minimized and stock loss is controlled.
• Manage financial processes; ensure budgets adhere to plans and best practices.
• Handle customer service, promotions, and PR to grow brand share and customer satisfaction.
• Be accountable for day-to-day operations, administration, sales, service and staff management.
• Analyse operations data to diagnose problems and identify opportunities with the Ops Management Support Team.
• Inspire and develop staff, enforce company policies, and maintain a harmonious work environment.
• Ensure compliance with legislation and corporate governance; uphold company values and culture.
