Job summary

ING Wholesale Banking in Amsterdam invites final-year Bachelors or Masters engineering students for an Energy Engineer internship in the Hydrocarbons & New Energies Technical Team. You will work with experienced engineers, assist in technical due diligence and help assess risks and bankability of energy projects.

This internship offers live deal experience, hybrid work, a laptop, a €700 monthly internship allowance based on a 36-hour week, and opportunities to network across international teams

Qualifications

Introduction

ING Wholesale Banking is expanding its Hydrocarbons & New Energies Technical Team in Amsterdam with an experienced Energy Engineer. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply deep engineering expertise to support the financing of complex energy projects across both fossil hydrocarbons and emerging new energy technologies.

The team

The Energy sector is a key pillar of ING Wholesale Banking, where ING maintains a long-term strategic focus and holds a global leading position in Structured Energy Financing. Within this sector, the Hydrocarbons and New Energies (H&NE) team focuses exclusively on (i) fossil Hydrocarbons financing - such as Reserves Based Lending - and (ii) emerging new energy technologies (i.e. bio-fuels and gases, including HVO and Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Carbon Capture, Utilization and Sequestration, Hydrogen and e-Fuels), reflecting ING's commitment to supporting the energy transition.

The ING H&NE Technical Team plays a strategic role by assessing technical risks, exploring mitigation strategies and, where possible, integrating them into the lending agreement. The team also prepares internal and external technical memorandums to support the credit decision making and syndication processes and advises on project bankability. Their deep sector expertise and global experience help build client trust, positioning ING as a value-added partner beyond financial solutions.

Job Description

As an intern in Technical Team, you will work closely with experienced engineers, contributing to the technical review of existing transactions and new business opportunities, helping the team advise commercial and risk stakeholders on project risks and bankability.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting technical due diligence processes and reviewing technical reports prepared by independent consultants.
• Analysing project assumptions, technical sensitivities, and operational risks for energy and infrastructure projects.
• Preparing technical memorandums summarising key risks, mitigants, and project developments for internal credit and lending teams.
