Job description

At a glance

The New Energies department, one of ABN AMRO’s Corporate Banking Clients (CBC) coverage teams, offers a dynamic, challenging, and international environment. We focus on the Energy & Basic Materials (Metals, Minerals, and Chemicals) sectors in Europe, and, together with the Bank’s product teams, we provide suitable products and services to our clients in these sectors. As these markets are dynamic and rapidly evolving, there is a clear need for an up-to-date overview of market developments and key players in these sectors. As an intern, you will research these sectors across the entire value chain and provide assistance to the coverage team in discussions with (potential) clients and in the origination of client business.

Your job

Within the New Energies department:

  • You will monitor and analyze relevant trends in various energy transition topics and update internal and external materials accordingly.
  • You will assist Coverage Bankers in creating materials such as case studies, market analyses, and pitch books for prospects and clients across the Energy and Basic Materials value chain.
  • You will support Coverage Bankers with sustainability reviews and other internal projects.
  • You will have the opportunity to participate in prospect and client calls and contribute to designing solutions for (potential) clients seeking financial products across Mergers & Acquisitions, Debt and Equity Capital Markets, among others.
Your working environment

ABN AMRO’s Corporate Banking Clients division is active in sectors where we have proven expertise, relevant products, and a strong market position. You will work in a team at our Amsterdam headquarters and collaborate with colleagues in Norway, the UK, Germany, and Belgium. Our clients range from large, established corporate companies and private equity firms to smaller enterprises, and we offer a broad range of products, including lending, advisory, and financial markets solutions. Within the Energy sector, our focus is transitioning from oil and gas to renewables and emerging disruptive technologies that will drive the decarbonization of the economy. These technologies are rapidly developing, and a significant amount of investment in new projects utilizing these technologies is currently being considered. This is a dynamic, cutting-edge environment with many interesting projects to work on and learn from.

Your profile

Are you analytical and good with numbers? Do you have a strong business sense and well-developed social skills? We are looking for an intern with strong analytical and numerical skills, an affinity with finance, and an interest in the Energy and Basic Materials sectors. You are a student with the ambition to gain significant experience in a banking environment. Although your daily activities will be internally focused, a commercial mindset is essential. Close attention to detail is required while maintaining an overview of the bigger picture.

  • You are in the final year of your master’s degree, preferably in finance, business economics, or a technical discipline.
  • You are fluent in English and, ideally, also in Dutch (spoken and written).
  • You possess strong commercial, analytical, and writing skills and can prepare well-structured and well-presented written materials in English.
  • You have intellectual curiosity and an eagerness to learn.
  • You must reside in the Netherlands and, if applicable, hold a valid residence permit until at least the end of your internship.
  • You are experienced in working with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • You enjoy working in a team, are a team player, and have well-developed social skills.
  • You are available for at least a four-month internship (extension possible).
  • You must be registered with a university during your internship.
