Checkout.com in Amsterdam is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in the Payments Performance pillar to provide strategic technical leadership, guiding architectural priorities across multiple teams and aligning them with business goals.

You will drive the long-term technical direction, collaborate with Data Science, Platform and ML Engineering teams, and mentor engineers to raise the bar for platform quality and reliability at scale.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building and scaling cloud-based distributed systems.
• Hands-on Go development with low-latency backends.
• Experience with experimentation platforms or feature-flag systems.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term technical direction for the Experimentation and Optimisation platform.
• Collaborate with Data Science, Platform and ML Engineering teams to shape what we build, not just how.
• Coach engineering teams, providing the technical leadership needed to solve complex distributed systems challenges in Go.
• Translate requirements and architecture into actionable engineering roadmaps.
• Serve as a role model for engineering excellence, championing best practices in code, architecture and operational excellence.
