Staff Platform Observability Engineer

Job summary

Adyen is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Platform Observability in Amsterdam. You will design and lead the observability strategy across logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting, and tackle scaling challenges in telemetry pipelines.

You will mentor engineers, drive reliability improvements, and collaborate with SRE and software teams to reduce MTTR while ensuring a robust, observable platform for high-throughput data processing.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with highly distributed systems.
• Experience designing APIs and data pipelines for high-throughput, real-time data.
• Proven track record improving reliability across availability, latency, and incident management.
• Proficiency in Go and/or Java.
• Strong stakeholder management and mentorship abilities.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and IaC tools (Terraform).
• Hands-on experience with observability stacks including Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead Logging, Metrics, Tracing & Alerting strategies.
• Solve scaling bottlenecks in telemetry data pipelines.
• Create advanced tooling to accelerate root-cause analysis and reduce MTTR.
• Guide and mentor software engineering and SRE teams on monitoring best practices.
• Identify bottlenecks and single points of failure to improve reliability of the observability platform.
• Drive features in observability from ideation to adoption.
• Collaborate on planning and refinements to ensure alignment and reduce complexity.
• Respond to alerts and provide production support.
