Job summary

Johnson & Johnson in Groningen, Netherlands, is seeking a Staff R&D Scientist to drive R&D activities for intraocular lenses and optical metrology in the Vision team. The role spans ideation through to market release, requiring leadership across multidisciplinary groups and collaboration with research institutes and US R&D teams.

The position emphasizes advancing ophthalmic devices, maintaining cutting-edge metrology capabilities, and contributing to IP strategy.

Qualifications

PhD in Optics, Physics or Vision Science, or Mechanical Modelling (required).
Preferably 5+ years of relevant experience.
Proficient in optical design principles using Zemax, OSLO or other design tools.
Has good level contacts regarding project and program definition.
Demonstrated research experience and interest in technology development.

Responsibilities

Participate in developing new concepts for medical devices from ideation to market phase.
Lead design and development of new intraocular lenses and optical metrology tests.
Develop test methods and validation systems for new and existing IOLs.
Lead requirements development, documentation of design, protocols and reports.
Participate in leading expert networks and collaborate with partners.
