Job summary

Jobgether in the Netherlands is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer, Operations to lead scalable AI-enabled backend infrastructure, manage LLM-powered workflows, and influence architecture across teams. You will own critical backend initiatives, define direction, and deliver high-impact improvements in a fast-growing insurance tech context.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years building backend systems at scale, hands-on LLM production experience, and strong Python/AWS skills.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building and operating backend systems at scale.
• Led at least one significant project as technical lead.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs in production and deployment at scale.
• Strong Python proficiency and AWS serverless exposure.
• Relational databases (PostgreSQL) and performance optimization.
• Able to communicate technical decisions to engineers, product, and leadership.
• Ownership mindset with the ability to drive projects end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of major backend initiatives, data models, async pipelines, and evaluation frameworks using Python and AWS.
• Define direction for large-scale LLM systems, balancing reliability, cost, latency, evaluation, and explainability.
• Drive architectural decisions across the product and collaborate with stakeholders.
• Deliver product improvements, scope new features, and manage technical debt strategically.
• Mentor colleagues and represent engineering in recruiting, training, and external interactions.
• Promote best practices across development, testing, deployment, and code review.
