Job summary

Toku Pte Ltd is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape the next generation of cloud communications platforms. You will lead architecture, drive scalable backend systems, and mentor other engineers while staying deeply hands-on with code.

You will tackle complex distributed challenges, modernise legacy components and contribute to a unified, scalable platform across CCaaS, UCaaS, and CPaaS capabilities in a hybrid/remote European environment.

Qualifications

• Significant staff-level IC experience with the ability to influence architecture across teams.
• Deep backend engineering with Go and Node.js/TypeScript; hands-on coding.
• Proven experience in designing complex distributed systems at scale.
• Experience modernising legacy systems into scalable architectures.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ).
• Extensive API design and service integration experience.
• Cloud engineering in public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong focus on engineering craft: testing, code quality, documentation.

Responsibilities

• Architecture & system design: define direction for scalable systems and services.
• Distributed systems & scalability: design microservices for high concurrency and latency.
• Backend engineering: hands-on development in production Go/Node.js services.
• Legacy modernisation: evolve legacy systems to modern architectures.
• Platform evolution: shape unified platform across squads.
• Event-driven systems: design with Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ.
• APIs & integrations: design scalable APIs across services.
• Cloud engineering: operate cloud-native production systems (AWS).
• Engineering standards: improve practices, testing, review, maintainability.
• Production & observability: improve monitoring, troubleshooting, performance.
• Technical leadership & influence: guide teams without formal authority.
• Mentorship: coach engineers through reviews, pair programming, workshops.
• Engineering improvement: drive automation and tooling enhancements.
