Job summary

Toku, based in the Netherlands, is expanding its European engineering presence and seeks a Staff Software Engineer to shape next-gen cloud communications platforms. You will lead architectural decisions, design scalable backend systems, and drive modernization across CCaaS, UCaaS, and CPaaS domains while remaining hands-on with code in Go and Node.js/TypeScript.

You will influence architecture, mentor engineers, and own critical engineering decisions without formal management authority.

Qualifications

• Staff-level engineering experience with architecture influence across multiple teams.
• Backend engineering with hands-on Go and Node.js/TypeScript work.
• Experience designing complex distributed systems and scalable APIs.
• Experience with cloud-native architectures and production systems.

Responsibilities

• Architect and design new systems and services from ground up.
• Design and evolve distributed systems capable of high-volume API traffic.
• Lead through technical expertise and code reviews, not people management.
• Guide legacy modernisation toward scalable, maintainable architectures.
• Shape platform evolution for a unified architecture across squads.
