Job summary

Vermilion Energy Netherlands B.V. is seeking a Senior Controller based in Harlingen or Amsterdam, NL. The role reports to the Finance Manager and focuses on budgets, forecasts, and profitability analysis across CAPEX, OPEX and G&A.

You will lead financial reviews for JVs and ensure robust financial governance. The ideal candidate brings 7–10 years in finance/FP&A, strong Excel proficiency, and experience with BI tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or related discipline.
  • 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, controlling, or FP&A roles.
  • Experience in energy/oil & gas/industrial/project-based sectors preferred.

Vermilion Energy Netherlands B.V. (Vermilion) is a Dutch company that started operations in 2004. We are active in small fields gas production. The natural gas we extract is provided to Dutch residential and business customers. Vermilion's core values are the same everywhere in the world: Excellence, Trust, Respect and Responsibility. The Opportunity Vermilion Energy has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Controller. Based in Harlingen or Amsterdam, The Netherlands, this role will report directly to the Finance Manager. The Senior Controller will support the company in managing budgets and helping to ensure optimal financial performance and profitability in the short and long term. The successful candidate will join a team that values its people and provides work with purpose.

What you will do
  • Coordinate, consolidate, report on, review and challenge budgets and forecasts across CAPEX, OPEX, and G&A, and provide management with insight into budget status.
  • Manage AFE and project processes, including AFE review meetings, and support long-range planning, DSP reviews, project economics, and business case analysis.
  • Support operated joint ventures through reporting, budget updates, investment approvals, administration of JV agreements, cost-recovery optimization, and audits.
  • Prepare Sector Agreement Fund reporting and commercial analyses, including profitability, cash flow, and Decommissioning Security Agreement calculations.
  • Support M&A reviews, sustainability projects and reporting, and provide financial input for reserve reporting.
  • Manage tax accounting, reconciliations, compliance, and filings for CIT, SPS, and cijns.
  • Manage the fixed asset register (FAR), asset retirement obligations (ARO), insurance submissions, and ESTMA/EITI reporting.
  • Perform inventory reconciliations and forecasts.
  • Review and support the continuous improvement of finance processes and compliance.
  • Support accounting staff with financial statements, accounts payable, month-end close, and other financial accounting matters.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.
What you will bring
  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics Business Administration or a related discipline
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, controlling, or financial planning & analysis roles.
  • Experience in the energy, oil & gas, natural resources, industrial, or project-based sectors is preferred.
  • Experience supporting capital-intensive operations and multi-stakeholder business environments and knowledge of joint venture accounting and reporting is an asset.
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, management reporting, business case evaluation, and project economics.
  • Experience with CAPEX, OPEX, cash flow analysis, asset management, and financial controls.
  • Knowledge of tax accounting, compliance reporting, audit support, and financial governance processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with Power BI, Snowflake, or other business intelligence, reporting, and data analytics platforms is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate complex financial information into actionable business recommendations.
  • High degree of integrity, accountability, and professional judgement.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on efficiency, compliance, and business value creation.
  • CPA, CA, ACCA, CMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally, if required.
