HUMAN CAPiTAL in Leiden, Netherlands, is looking for a Software Engineer Java & React to join a hybrid team (3 days in the Leiden office, 2 days from home). You will design, build and test new functionality for a metadata platform used by national libraries, and work with AI tools daily.

The role requires 4+ years of software engineering experience, a CS-related degree, and strong Java/Spring and React skills. AWS, Linux, PostgreSQL, and Git experience are beneficial.

Software Engineer Java & React | Leiden | Hybrid (3 days office, 2 from home) | up to €5,000 per month

Want to build software that is used by national libraries across Europe and Asia and do you like Java and React, and do you use AI tools in your daily development work? Then this role in Leiden could be your next step.

About the organisation

Our client is an international tech company and library cooperative with its global headquarters in the United States and offices in Leiden and Eelde. From Leiden, a development team builds and maintains a metadata management platform that national libraries and regional library consortia in the Netherlands, Germany, France and Japan use to manage very large collections. The product has grown over decades into a flexible and commercially successful system.

The team

You join an experienced team of 10 software engineers, 2 test engineers and a technical manager. Because the team is quite senior, there is room for someone with a little less experience who wants to grow alongside strong colleagues.

What will you do?

Who are we looking for?

• Experience with PostgreSQL and Git is a plus; C is an advantage
• Hands‑on use of AI tools in your daily work
• Good English; Dutch is not required
