Job summary

JD Engineers is seeking a Software Commissioning & Support Engineer in the Netherlands to configure, commission and support high-precision folder gluers. You will implement PLC-based motion and control software and ensure smooth machine operation for customers worldwide.

The role requires a strong hands-on engineering mindset, experience in industrial automation, and fluency in English and Dutch. You will work both remotely and on-site, training operators and contributing to ongoing improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Technical Informatics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or Industrial Automation.
• 5–10 years' experience in industrial automation, commissioning or field service.
• Strong PLC programming and motion control experience; Sigmatek preferred; other brands valuable.
• Hands-on troubleshooting of machines with limited documentation.
• Familiarity with Dutch safety standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Configure and commission PLC-based motion and control software for folder gluers.
• Provide remote and on-site customer support and troubleshoot issues under time pressure.
• Diagnostics of software and hardware, wiring and electrical/mechanical faults.
• Collaborate with R&D and engineering to implement improvements.
• Train operators and maintenance staff on machine operation and software usage.
• Document commissioning activities and feedback for continuous improvement.

Position Summary

The Software Commissioning & Support Engineer is responsible for configuring, commissioning, and supporting folder gluers. This role ensures smooth machine operation, provides technical support both remotely and on-site, and contributes to continuous improvement of automation systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Configure and commission PLC-based motion and control software for folder gluers.
• Integrate and test automation systems including motion control, fast I/O glue systems, machine control, and advanced HMI.
• Provide customer support remotely and on-site, troubleshooting complex issues under time pressure.
• Perform diagnostics on both software and hardware, including opening cabinets, checking wiring, and resolving electrical/mechanical faults.
• Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to implement modifications and upgrades.
• Train operators and maintenance staff on machine operation and software use.
• Document commissioning activities, troubleshooting steps, and customer feedback for continuous improvement.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (HBO/HTS) in Technical Informatics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Industrial Automation.
• Minimum 5–10 years of experience in industrial automation, commissioning, or field service engineering.
• Strong background in PLC programming and motion control. Experience with Sigmatek hardware preferred; knowledge of B&R, Beckhoff, Siemens, or Rockwell also valuable.
• Hands-on experience in troubleshooting machines without extensive documentation.
• Familiarity with Dutch technical standards (e.g., NEN3140, VCA-VOL) and safety regulations.

• Practical, hands-on engineer not afraid to work inside electrical cabinets.
• Flexible and adaptable to international customer environments.
• Strong communication skills in English and Dutch.
