Job summary

EMEA Recruitment is partnering with a fast-growing global technology business to appoint a Senior VAT Manager to lead VAT compliance across the EMEA region. The role manages a small VAT team and closely collaborates with external advisors, finance and broader business stakeholders.

The position is fully office-based in Amsterdam, requiring strong leadership, governance and process improvements to support growth and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level or equivalent, with an accounting and/or tax qualification.
• Proven record of managing large compliance programmes across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong technical and operational VAT experience gained in-house, or a combination of in-house and in-practice.
• Ability to partner with external advisors and hold them to account.
• Proven ability to build relationships across the business, lead people and manage multiple stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex, ever-changing environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage external advisors to ensure timely preparation and submission of monthly VAT filings across multiple European entities and territories.
• Lead a team of two VAT specialists who extract and analyze monthly financial data from the SAP ERP system to ensure complete and accurate reporting.
• Review and approve all filings prepared by external advisors before submission to the authorities.
• Ensure all VAT payments are made to tax authorities by the required deadlines following submission of returns.
• Own and approve all VAT balance sheet reconciliations and other compliance oversight controls.
• Work with the business on assurance reviews and testing to identify weaknesses and improvements, driving change in other teams’ processes for stronger controls and more efficient VAT reporting.
• Respond to non-standard requests from external stakeholders, including tax authorities, external auditors and other areas of the business.
• Lead VAT technical input on wider business projects, including systems implementations, alongside key stakeholders.
