The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an established financial services organisation in Amsterdam that is looking for an experienced Senior Microsoft Infrastructure Engineer to join its IT Platforms team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who enjoys working with complex, business-critical infrastructure and wants to remain hands‑on while contributing to a wider technology modernisation programme.
You'll join a small, experienced team responsible for the stability, security and continuous improvement of the organisation's backend Microsoft infrastructure.
The environment combines established on‑premises technologies with an expanding Microsoft Azure estate, offering a balance of traditional enterprise infrastructure engineering, automation and cloud transformation.
Importantly, this is a hands‑on technical engineering position, rather than a purely architectural, management or cloud DevOps role.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain and troubleshoot enterprise Windows Server environments, ensuring reliability, performance and availability.
- Administer and support Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and associated Microsoft infrastructure services.
- Investigate and resolve complex infrastructure incidents, identifying root causes and implementing long‑term solutions.
- Maintain platform security through patch management, system hardening, vulnerability remediation and ongoing improvements.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate administration, streamline operations and improve efficiency.
- Support infrastructure monitoring, capacity management, disaster recovery and business continuity.
- Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, migrations and platform lifecycle management.
- Support hybrid infrastructure environments and participate in ongoing Microsoft Azure modernisation initiatives.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud and security teams to deliver reliable, secure and scalable technical solutions.
- Share technical knowledge and contribute to best practices within the engineering team.
Skills & Experience Required
We're looking for an experienced Microsoft infrastructure professional with a strong background in enterprise Windows environments.
- Extensive hands‑on experience administering, maintaining and troubleshooting Windows Server infrastructure.
- Strong technical expertise in Active Directory Domain Services, Group Policy, DNS and related core Microsoft services.
- Proven experience supporting complex, business‑critical enterprise infrastructure.
- Strong PowerShell scripting and automation capabilities.
- Experience with Windows Server patching, security hardening and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem‑solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Azure and hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Ability to take ownership of technical issues and work effectively within a collaborative engineering team.
- Experience with Microsoft System Center technologies, particularly SCOM and SCCM/MECM.
- Knowledge of VMware or other enterprise virtualisation technologies.
- Experience with disaster recovery, infrastructure resilience and business continuity.
- Previous experience within financial services, banking or another highly regulated environment.
- Exposure to Azure DevOps pipelines or infrastructure automation tooling.
What Makes This Opportunity Attractive?
- Hands‑on technical ownership: Remain close to the technology, solving challenging infrastructure problems and implementing meaningful improvements.
- Modernisation projects: Contribute to the evolution of an established enterprise infrastructure environment, including Azure adoption and automation.
- Experienced engineering team: Work alongside knowledgeable infrastructure specialists in a collaborative environment.
- Business‑critical systems: Take responsibility for platforms where reliability, security and performance are essential.
- Long‑term career opportunity: Join an established organisation offering stability, technical variety and opportunities for professional development.
- Hybrid working: Enjoy flexibility with approximately two days per week in the Amsterdam office.
