Job summary

ScaleOps Search Ltd in Amsterdam is seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join the IT Platforms team within a financial services organisation. The role combines hands-on Linux administration with cloud modernisation, delivering resilient enterprise infrastructure in a hybrid, on-site/off-site model.

You will work across RHEL, AIX, storage, backup, and virtualisation, contributing to migrations toward Microsoft Azure while maintaining on-premise systems and disaster recovery

About the Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join the IT Platforms division of an established financial services organisation based in Amsterdam.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong, hands-on infrastructure specialist to join a collaborative engineering team responsible for maintaining, improving and modernising business-critical enterprise infrastructure.

The organisation is undergoing a significant technology transformation, gradually moving towards Microsoft Azure while continuing to invest in its existing on-premise infrastructure.

The position offers an interesting balance of traditional infrastructure engineering and cloud modernisation, making it particularly attractive to engineers who enjoy working across a broad technology landscape rather than specialising exclusively in cloud technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage, maintain and optimise enterprise Linux environments, primarily Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), with some AIX exposure.
• Support enterprise storage infrastructure, including technologies such as NetApp, Hitachi, Dell EMC and HPE.
• Administer and maintain backup and recovery solutions, particularly Commvault.
• Support VMware virtualisation environments, including vSphere and ESXi.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, ensuring system availability, performance and security.
• Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, migrations, lifecycle management and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop and implement automation using scripting technologies such as Bash, Python or PowerShell.
• Support disaster recovery planning, backup integrity and infrastructure resilience.
• Collaborate with infrastructure colleagues, architects, security teams and other IT stakeholders.
• Participate in the organisation's ongoing transition towards Microsoft Azure and hybrid infrastructure.
• Contribute to technical decision-making and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
• Strong hands-on experience administering and supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
• Practical experience with enterprise backup and recovery technologies, ideally Commvault.
• Experience supporting enterprise storage platforms such as NetApp, Hitachi, Dell EMC or HPE.
• Good understanding of enterprise infrastructure, virtualisation and data centre operations.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across complex infrastructure environments.
• Experience with infrastructure maintenance, upgrades, patching and lifecycle management.
• Understanding of infrastructure security, availability and disaster recovery principles.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of technical issues and collaborate effectively within a small team.
• A genuine interest in remaining technically hands-on.
• VMware vSphere / ESXi administration.
• IBM AIX experience.
• Microsoft Azure or hybrid cloud infrastructure exposure.
• Scripting and automation using Bash, Python or PowerShell.
• Experience with Nasuni or enterprise file storage technologies.
• Experience working in financial services or another highly regulated enterprise environment.
• Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring, performance optimisation and operational security.

The Working Environment

You'll join a small, experienced infrastructure engineering team responsible for a diverse range of enterprise technologies.

The environment is approximately 70% traditional infrastructure engineering and operations, with 30% focused on cloud migration and modernisation.

This is a genuinely hands-on position, offering the opportunity to take technical ownership, contribute ideas and work across multiple infrastructure disciplines.

The role also includes participation in an on-call rota, approximately one week in four.

Who Would Suit This Role?

We're particularly interested in speaking with experienced Linux Infrastructure Engineers, Systems Engineers, Storage & Backup Engineers and Infrastructure Specialists who enjoy maintaining and improving complex enterprise environments.

You may currently be working within financial services, an enterprise IT department, a managed services provider or a large data centre environment.

The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys solving technical problems, taking ownership and working across a variety of infrastructure technologies.

This is not a purely cloud engineering, DevOps or architecture position. The emphasis is on strong, practical infrastructure engineering experience, combined with an interest in cloud modernisation.
