Job summary

Join, a senior software engineering consultancy focused on the Java ecosystem, is seeking an experienced engineer to design, build and improve high-quality software systems for leading clients in the Netherlands. You will work hands-on with Java, Kotlin, and the JVM on backend, full-stack and cloud-native projects, sharing knowledge and applying AI-driven practices.

Fluent Dutch and strong English communication are required, along with 5+ years of experience and a degree in CS/SE.

Qualifications

• 5+ years professional software engineering experience.
• Fluent Dutch and strong English communication skills.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in CS/SE or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong engineering mindset—clean code, architecture, testing, maintainability.
• Curiosity about AI in software engineering and willingness to experiment with new tools.
• Experience with JVM frameworks such as Spring, Quarkus or similar.
• Experience with CI/CD, test automation, DevOps, monitoring or automated deployments.
• Experience with cloud and container technologies such as AWS, GCP, Docker or Kubernetes.
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka, Redis or Vert.x is a plus.
• Experience with frontend technologies such as Angular, React or Vue is a plus.
• Experience with public speaking, meetups, conferences or training is a plus.
• Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills.
• Location near Utrecht preferred.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong experience with Java or Kotlin and the JVM ecosystem
• Fluent Dutch and strong English communication skills
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent practical experience
• A strong engineering mindset: you care about clean code, architecture, testing, delivery and maintainability
• Curiosity about AI in software engineering and a willingness to experiment with new tools and workflows
• Experience with one or more JVM frameworks such as Spring, Quarkus or similar
• Experience with CI/CD, test automation, DevOps, monitoring or automated deployments
• Experience with cloud and container technologies such as AWS, GCP, Docker or Kubernetes
• Experience with relational or NoSQL databases
• Experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka, Redis or Vert.x is a plus
• Experience with frontend technologies such as Angular, React or Vue is a plus
