Job summary

Nearfield Instruments in Rotterdam is seeking a Software Architect to own the architecture, design, and lifecycle management of core software areas within our Design & Engineering team. You will lead cross-cutting concerns and stay hands-on to turn ideas into production code.

You will gather requirements from internal customers, craft high-level architectures, supervise several developers, and drive quality through testing and risk management in a fast-moving scale-up environment.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in CS, physics or electronics.
• 10+ years of experience in software development.
• 7+ years of experience in software architecture and design.
• Experience with modern software development practices, languages and tools (git, CI/CD, automated testing, JIRA, C#, Python, PlantUML and use of LLMs).
• Outstanding communication skills: Explain complex topics to non-engineers.
• Above 7 years of experience with precision equipment or semiconductor industry.
• Coaching ability to mentor and keep the team up-to-date with relevant knowledge.
• Ability to influence other lead engineers, managers, and teams.

Responsibilities

• Collect requirements from internal customers and translate product requirements to SW level requirements for large projects.
• Create high-level architecture and design to fulfill SW and product requirements.
• Lead the development of multiple features with other developers.
• Troubleshoot technical issues involving software development and product releases.
• Drive software quality and reliability through structured testing strategies, validation and continuous improvement.
• Identify system-level risks and resolve complex technical issues.
• Lead and support integration of multi-disciplinary subsystems.
• Act as a mentor and escalation point for senior software engineers.
