Job summary

NES Fircroft represents a client who is delivering one of Europe’s largest hyperscale data centre developments in Groningen, Netherlands.

The Senior Site Engineer will provide technical leadership, oversee setting-out, and coordinate design and construction activities on site.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Construction/Structural Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years' experience as Site Engineer or Senior Site Engineer on major construction projects.
• Experience delivering data centre or mission-critical projects is desirable.
• Experience with setting out, surveying, BIM models, and construction documentation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to lead engineering teams and coordinate multiple subcontractors.

Job description

Our client is a leading specialist in the delivery of large-scale mission-critical infrastructure projects across Europe. Due to continued growth and the award of a major hyperscale data centre development in Groningen, Netherlands, they are seeking an experienced Senior Site Engineer to join their project delivery team.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of a landmark mission-critical project, providing technical leadership and engineering support throughout the construction lifecycle. Working closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, Design Team, and subcontractors, you will ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design specifications, programme, and quality standards.

Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will act as the technical lead on site, coordinating engineering activities, resolving technical challenges, and supporting the successful delivery of one of Europe's most significant data centre developments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate all site engineering activities across designated project areas.
• Interpret and review construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure accurate project execution.
• Provide technical guidance and support to construction teams, subcontractors, and junior engineers.
• Manage site setting out activities and verify that works are completed in accordance with approved drawings and tolerances.
• Coordinate with the design team to resolve technical queries and manage Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Monitor construction progress to ensure compliance with programme, quality standards, and client requirements.
• Work closely with planning, commercial, quality, and commissioning teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
• Support inspection and testing activities, ensuring works are completed to the highest standards.
• Ensure all engineering records, as-built drawings, and project documentation are accurately maintained.
• Identify technical risks and develop practical engineering solutions to maintain programme objectives.
• Participate in project coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
• Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety policies and promote a strong safety culture on site.
• Mentor and support Graduate and Site Engineers, encouraging technical excellence and professional development.
• Assist with project handover activities, commissioning support, and final documentation.

Requirements

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 7+ years' experience as a Site Engineer or Senior Site Engineer on major construction projects.
• Previous experience delivering data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial, semiconductor, or other mission-critical projects is highly desirable.
• Strong background working for a main contractor on complex construction projects.
• Excellent understanding of construction methodologies, engineering principles, and technical coordination.
• Experience with setting out equipment, surveying techniques, and engineering software.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, BIM models, and construction documentation.
• Experience managing RFIs, technical submittals, and design coordination.
• Strong understanding of quality assurance and inspection procedures.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to lead engineering teams and coordinate multiple subcontractors in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Commitment to maintaining the highest Environmental, Health & Safety standards.
• Experience with BIM, AutoCAD, and relevant engineering software is advantageous.
