Project Director – Hyperscale Data Centre (Netherlands)
Location - Amsterdam, Netherlands
Salary - €140,000 - €170,000 (can also pay through a £ and UK Contract if preferred)
Role Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Project Director to join a specialist Data Centre delivery team in the Netherlands, taking responsibility for the leadership and delivery of a major hyperscale data centre campus in Amsterdam, with a project value in excess of €900m. Reporting to the Regional Director / Business Unit Managing Director, the Project Director will hold overall accountability for the commercial, operational and strategic performance of this flagship project. The role spans early-stage involvement through construction, commissioning and handover, ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with demanding technical and commercial requirements.
Project Context
The development is a large-scale, multi-building data centre campus delivering approximately 80MW of total capacity. The scheme comprises three high-rise technical buildings, with the substation built and operational, the delivery of the data halls begins early 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full accountability for the safe, timely and commercially successful delivery of the project
- Lead the project from pre-construction and mobilisation through to commissioning and handover
- Define and implement the project execution strategy, including programme, logistics, resourcing and risk management
- Establish and lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary project team, embedding a culture of safety, quality and accountability
- Manage the contractor’s business interests on the project, ensuring cost certainty, value optimisation and risk mitigation
- Act as the senior interface with the client, funders, consultants, utilities and statutory authorities
- Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, environmental, regulatory and governance standards throughout the project lifecycle
- Provide clear governance, reporting and performance monitoring to senior business leadership
- Support commercial teams in contract administration, negotiations, change management and claims resolution
- Identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency and continuous improvement across the project
- Promote positive industrial relations, workforce wellbeing and inclusive leadership on site
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrable experience operating at Project Director / Senior Project Manager level on large-scale, complex construction projects
- Strong background in data centres, mission-critical, or technically demanding environments
- Proven ability to lead large, diverse teams across construction, engineering and commercial disciplines
- Highly developed commercial and contractual acumen, with experience managing major project budgets and risk profiles
- Confident senior stakeholder manager, capable of operating in investor- and client-facing environments
- Strong understanding of European construction practices and regulatory frameworks advantageous
- Strategic mindset with the ability to balance operational detail and high-level leadership
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business or a related discipline
- Professional membership (e.g. CIOB, RICS or equivalent)
- Recognised Health & Safety qualification (IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent)
- Experience delivering projects with strong sustainability and energy efficiency targets
- Familiarity with EU labour, regulatory and compliance requirements
- Exposure to digital construction tools, BIM and modern delivery methodologies
