Job summary

Lonza is seeking a Senior Research Associate Biochemistry in Oss to advance ADS‑R&D Bioconjugates. You will plan and execute experiments, purify and characterize proteins, and contribute to functional assays and data interpretation.

Qualifications

  • BSc/MSc in Biochemistry or Molecular biology.
  • 2–4 years relevant experience in Biochemistry.

Senior Research Associate Biochemistry

Location: Oss

A Senior Research Associate Biochemistry supports the ADS R&D agenda in the field of bioconjugation by contributing technical expertise and operational excellence. The Senior Research Associate independently plans, executes, and documents project‑specific activities, ensuring high scientific quality and reproducibility. They proactively troubleshoot experimental challenges, optimize workflows, and apply the full spectrum of analytical techniques available in the laboratory. In addition, the Senior Research Associate supports project management activities by preparing high‑quality materials for both internal and external stakeholders.

Prime objective of the ADS‑R&D Bioconjugates Research function (Oss) is to provide best-in-class targeted delivery technologies, i.e. development of protein conjugation technologies, linkers and payloads. General focus is on cytotoxic ADCs, however other modalities to be employed in indications such as immuno-oncology, targeted gene therapy, neuromuscular disease, neurodegeneration are also being pursued.

The full-time annual base pay for this position in The Netherlands is expected to range between 48.000,- EUR and 67.200,- EUR.Initialsalary placement within this range will bedeterminedbased on role‑related factors such as experience, qualifications, and expected contribution.

Whatyouwilldo:
  • Plans and performs experiments as described in protocols and improves upon these protocols. Is able to apply protocols beyond the original scope.

  • Plans and executes enzymatic and chemical reactions on antibodies and other proteins and trouble‑shoots where appropriate. Performs various laboratory techniques for protein purification (protein A chromatography, SEC and IEX) and characterization (SDS-PAGE, RP‑UPLC, SE-UPLC, UPLC‑MS) and critically assesses the results.

  • Plans and executes functional analyses including cell-based assays (in vitro cytotoxicity, reporter cell lines) and ELISA-based assays and critically assesses the results. Coordinates biological assays outsourced to a CRO (e.g. communication with CRO, coordinating shipments and drafting study protocols).

  • Collects experimental data, interprets the results, draws conclusions and proposes next steps to the supervisor. Prepares slides/presentations for internal and external use. Prepares and writes examples for IP filing.

  • Is accountable for timelines and quality of sub-projects within the bigger programs.

  • Supports the preparations for internal group, project, and steering team meetings. Contributes to external collaborations and technical due‑diligences by preparing presentation slides that effectively communicate project progress and outcomes.

  • Takes responsibility for small organizational projects, e.g. ordering laboratory equipment and improving on laboratory safety.

  • Documents procedures, results and conclusions timely and accurately in Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN). Review and approve ELN experiments from colleagues to guarantee accuracy and consistency. Prepares and revises standard operating procedures (SOPs). Oversees the inventory for antibodies, enzymes, small molecules and cell lines.

  • In case analytical or preparative instruments malfunction, identifies issues and troubleshoots.

  • Assists with onboarding of new research associates. Supervises interns.

What we are looking for:
  • BSc/MSc degree in Biochemistry or Molecular biology.

  • 2 - 4 years relevant experience in Biochemistry.

  • Demonstrates a strong focus to laboratory work and a high attention to detail and strong experimental standards.

  • Works closely with (senior) scientists, contributes to project progression, and communicates effectively within the team.

  • Is able to interpret analytical data from experiments and converts these into next steps.

  • Demonstrates problem solving and trouble shooting skills.

  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication and presenting skills.

  • Acts as a reliable team member with a conscientious work ethic.

  • Proficient in relevant software programs, including MS Office.
