Job summary

Lightyear seeks a Power Electronics Engineer to drive hands-on design of efficient converters, leveraging wide bandgap semiconductors and magnetics. You will define PV port configurations, work with stakeholders, and iterate prototypes at high speed toward scalable production.

You will balance simulation and lab work, ensure mass manufacturability, and collaborate across functions to reduce cost and complexity for our customers, contributing to sustainable mobility and solar vehicle charging

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Electronics.
• Expertise in defining and validating robust power converter topologies optimized for mass production.
• Proficiency in simulation tools (Simulink/Matlab/PLECS) with rapid hardware validation.
• Deep hands-on experience with Wide Bandgap semiconductors (GaN/SiC) and high-frequency magnetics design.
• Experience in planar magnetics design, including thermal management and high-frequency operation.
• Strong foundation in control schemes (e.g., MPC, DAB) and soft-switching techniques (ZVS/ZCS).
• Lab-native mindset with oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and soldering.
• Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) in power electronics.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on design of power electronics with wide bandgap semiconductors.
• Define PV port architectures and power ratings with stakeholders.
• Build, test, and iterate prototypes at high speed for production-readiness.
• Balance simulations with rapid prototyping to verify concepts.
• Ensure mass manufacturability, low cost, reliability and high performance.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to align theory with production realities.
