Job summary

Lightyear is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to drive hands-on design and rapid prototyping of power converters that harvest solar energy for vehicle batteries. You will define PV port architectures, validate through measurements, and iterate toward production-ready hardware.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Electronics.
• Expertise in defining and validating robust power converter topologies for mass production.
• Proficiency with simulation tools (Simulink/Matlab/PLECS) and rapid hardware validation.
• Deep hands-on experience with Wide Bandgap semiconductors (GaN/SiC) and high-frequency magnetics design.
• Experience in planar magnetics design including thermal management.
• Strong foundations in control schemes (e.g., MPC, DAB) and soft-switching techniques (ZVS/ZCS).
• Lab-native mindset: oscilloscope use, power analyzers and rapid prototyping.

Responsibilities

• Perform topology research and define PV port counts with stakeholders.
• Design, build, test, and iterate prototypes at high speed.
• Balance simulation with rapid prototyping to verify concepts.
• Ensure mass manufacturability, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
• Collaborate with suppliers to secure critical components.
• Translate design concepts into production-ready hardware.
