Job summary

HallTech B.V. is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer based in Eindhoven. You will take ownership of the mechanical design for our deposition platform, focusing on vacuum chamber architecture and hardware interfaces. Ideal candidates will have an MSc in mechanical engineering and 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, especially related to semiconductor equipment. Senior Mechanical Engineer

About HallTech

HallTech is a deep‑tech startup building a new thin‑film deposition platform for next‑generation semiconductor manufacturing. We operate at the intersection of plasma physics, vacuum engineering, and advanced materials.

We are scaling from a working proof‑of‑concept to a fab‑ready system out of our new R&D lab on the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven.

The role

You will own the mechanical design of our deposition platform. That means vacuum chamber architecture, source mechanical integration, precision assemblies, motion and alignment, and the hardware interfaces between our source, chamber, and substrate handling.

You will report to the Head of Industrialization and partner directly with our Flow & Thermal Specialist on cooling and thermal‑mechanical coupling. You work peer‑to‑peer with the source, plasma, and materials engineers on full‑system decisions.

This role exists because we are scaling the technical organisation. The physics works. The next phase is turning rapid hardware iterations into a manufacturable platform: vacuum architecture that holds, mechanical interfaces that survive thermal load, and assemblies that ship to customers.

What you will do
  • Own mechanical design of the full deposition platform: vacuum chamber, ion source, wafer handling
  • Design source mechanical integration: precision assemblies, thermal interfaces, alignment features, tolerances that hold at high temperatures
  • Lead chamber design for custom configurations: geometry, pumping ports, diagnostic access, serviceability
  • Drive component selection and supplier relationships: vacuum components, motion stages, seals, materials
  • Partner with our Flow & Thermal Specialist on cooling integration and thermal‑mechanical coupling
  • Take designs from concept through CAD, FEA, fabrication drawings, and hands‑on assembly
  • Support the next‑generation platform with mechanical input from day one
What we are looking for
  • MSc in mechanical engineering, precision engineering, or a related field
  • 5 to 10 years of hands‑on mechanical design experience on real hardware
  • Experience in semiconductor equipment or thin‑film deposition tools
  • Strong command of CAD (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Proven experience designing deep vacuum systems: (cryo) vacuum pumps, chambers, flanges, seals, feedthroughs, leak‑tight interfaces
  • Deep understanding of materials behaviour: thermal expansion, outgassing, vacuum compatibility, surface finish
  • You have worked on hard engineering problems before. Not textbook exercises. Real hardware, real constraints, real deadlines.
  • High agency and self‑starting. You do not wait to be told what to do next. In a startup, you define your own function and build it from scratch.
Nice to have
  • Experience with high‑power plasma sources, ion sources, or electron‑beam systems
  • Experience with high‑power/high‑temperature thermal design and integration
  • Familiarity with kinematic design, or wafer handling
  • Experience managing external machine shops and vacuum chamber builders
  • GD&T and tolerance stack‑up experience on assemblies with tight mechanical budgets
