Job summary

X-Laboratory is seeking an experienced machinery designer to develop offshore motion compensation and maritime robotics systems. You will work hands-on in 3D CAD, from concept to manufacturing drawings, supplier fabrication, assembly and testing.

Required is strong practical knowledge of mechanisms, steel structures, machining, weldments, tolerances and mechanical assembly, plus 5+ years in CAD design of complex industrial machinery. Offshore/maritime experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• B.Sc./M.Sc./HBO in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent professional background.
• 5+ years of professional CAD design experience with complex industrial machinery
• Advanced parametric 3D CAD and 2D manufacturing-drawing experience
• Experience with complex assemblies and sub-assembly structures
• Practical knowledge of steels, machine tolerancing, fits and mechanical interfaces
• Experience with CNC-machined parts, sheet metal, welded structures and weld-assembly drawings
• Experience with mechanisms, rotating equipment, linear guidance and standard machine components
• Proven experience supporting manufacture, assembly and testing of machinery you have designed

Responsibilities

• Design complex machinery including winches, actuator systems, mechanisms, structural frames and lifting/handling equipment
• Create and maintain parametric 3D CAD models, large assemblies and structured sub-assemblies
• Design mechanisms using rotary and linear actuators, bearings, shafts, couplings, joints, fasteners and linear guidance systems
• Design machined parts, sheet-metal components, weldments and large load-bearing steel structures
• Produce complete 2D manufacturing, weld-assembly and general assembly drawings
• Define materials, steels, fits, tolerances, interfaces, surface treatments and standard machine components
• Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and controlled CAD/manufacturing documentation
• Prepare technical packages for tendering and support supplier selection
• Supervise manufacturing, fabrication and assembly and resolve technical issues and non-conformances
• Support mechanical integration, FAT and, occasionally, commissioning at client or offshore locations
