Job summary

SMART Photonics seeks a Senior Mask Design Engineer to lead end-to-end tape-out flows for photonic integrated circuits. You will run tape-outs, manage post-processing, and own deliverables while advancing automation across the mask engineering group.

Join a 10-person Design Enablement team reporting to the Cluster Lead and Principal Scientist. You will build modular, reusable scripts, set up reproducible environments, and contribute to Git workflows and tooling used across projects.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics, or related field.
• 7+ years post-master's or 5+ years post-PhD in photonics foundry/EDA/customer enablement.
• Strong communication, influence, and leadership ability.
• Proficient in Python and/or Ruby; Git/version control experience.
• Familiar with GDS-II and layout tools.
• Automation mindset; able to script repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities

• Execute and improve end-to-end tape-out flow for PIC platforms.
• Run tape-outs, understand post-processing, own deliverables.
• Automate scripts and workflows; modularize and harden them.
• Develop CI validation for post-processing outputs.
• Collaborate with EDA, PDK, IT engineers; review code.
• Maintain development environments and documentation.
