Job description

APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be a part of our journey.

About the role

Based at our headquarters in The Hague, the Investment Manager will join the APM Terminals Investment team, reporting to the Head of Investments, Project Management. The team is responsible for driving growth, managing large and complex concession extension efforts, and supporting portfolio strategy initiatives. You will contribute to the development and execution of growth opportunities globally, including terminal expansion projects, public and private tenders, concession negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, divestments, and greenfield and brownfield terminal developments. In addition, you will support strategic initiatives across the existing portfolio and help shape solutions that create long‑term value for APM Terminals and its stakeholders. Success in this role requires strong commercial judgement, intellectual curiosity, relationship‑building capability, and the confidence to engage with senior executives, government authorities, and strategic partners. You will be comfortable working independently while also collaborating effectively across diverse, multinational teams.

What We Can Offer

At APM Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement means every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers by continuously refining how we work. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work. Work on globally significant port infrastructure investments, concession extensions, M&A opportunities, and strategic growth initiatives. Collaborate with senior leaders, government authorities, investors, and industry stakeholders across international markets. Develop expertise across investment management, corporate development, strategy, and business growth activities. Gain exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects spanning terminal expansion, greenfield and brownfield developments, and portfolio strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop investment opportunities, business cases, and strategic growth projects.
  • Assess investment feasibility and commercial attractiveness, providing recommendations to senior management.
  • Lead or support complex infrastructure, concession, M&A, and corporate development projects from concept through execution.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional project planning across commercial, engineering, operations, legal, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare investment proposals, valuation perspectives, negotiation positions, and stakeholder presentation materials.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government officials, investors, partners, customers, and other external stakeholders.
  • Develop market strategies, manage opportunity pipelines, and provide industry and competitive analysis to support growth objectives.
What We Are Looking For
  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently put customers first, lead by example with respect for people, deliver results with integrity, and drive continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in strategy, M&A, corporate development, or business development roles.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to navigate commercial, operational, and legal complexities.
  • Experience with Public Private Partnerships (PPP), concession agreements, and infrastructure investment environments.
  • Knowledge of investment case development, deal structuring, due diligence, valuation, and financial modelling.
  • Excellent negotiation, presentation, stakeholder management, and communication skills in an international environment.
  • Fluent in English and willing to travel internationally as required.
