Job summary

Budget Thuis runs its own core infrastructure in Amsterdam, and as a Senior Infrastructure Engineer you keep it running with ownership from day one. You’ll design, build, and maintain the network, Linux servers, and Kubernetes, driving projects end-to-end.

The role requires independent leadership and willingness to join a 24/7 on-call rotation, with a driver’s license for routine datacenter visits.

Budget Thuis runs its own core infrastructure in Amsterdam: our own network, our own servers, our own racks in the datacenter. As Senior Infrastructure Engineer you keep that running and help move it forward, with real ownership from day one. Read on.

What you'll do as Senior Infrastructure Engineer

• Design, build and maintain our network: routing, switching, firewalls and WiFi;
• Managing our Linux servers and virtual platforms (VMware, Azure, AWS), from setup to troubleshooting;
• Building out our Kubernetes environment and infrastructure as code, together with the Platform team;
• Leading infrastructure projects end to end, from design to delivery;
• Incident, change and patch management, including monitoring and security measures;
• Advising other teams on the infrastructure side of their projects, in plain language;
• Working in our datacenters on hardware, installations and upgrades;
• Keeping our documentation up to date.

Two things to know up front. The team runs a 24/7 on-call rotation, so you take your turn outside office hours. And you need a driver's licence, because you regularly drive equipment between our office and the datacenters.

About the team

Budget Thuis is the home brand for energy, internet and mobile. We deliberately run our core infrastructure ourselves instead of handing it to a third party, so our IT Infrastructure team manages everything from firewalls and switches to virtual platforms and datacenter hardware. The team has five engineers today and you will be the sixth. Almost every other team needs infrastructure work to get their projects live, so you work close to the rest of the business.

What you bring

• Demonstrable end responsibility for network infrastructure in production: routing, switching and firewalls;
• Solid Linux administration: server management and hands-on troubleshooting;
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure as code;
• Experience with datacenter hardware and backup solutions;
• You work independently, take the lead in projects and communicate clearly with other teams;
• Willing to join the 24/7 on-call rotation, and in possession of a driver's licence.

Nice-to-haves

• A networking certification: Cisco CCNA or CCNP, or an Aruba, Arista or Juniper equivalent;
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator;
• A Linux certification, for example LPIC;
• Experience with FortiGate, Juniper QFX, Aruba, Arista, VMware (vSphere, Horizon), Pure Storage or optical networks.

Certifications are a plus, not a filter. We look at what you have actually built and run.

• A salary between € 4.800 and EUR € 6.500 gross per month based on 40 hours, depending on experience (part-time from 32 hours possible);
